NKGC has team program where the lessons don't stop at gymnastics training. Progression and technique provide our gymnasts with knowledge of the skills. But, wishing and working for something are not the same-perseverance is key. We have a family atmospher
New Kent Gymnastics Center opened the Summer of 2010. Owner Carissa Baldwin provided a small town with it's first private club sports center offering recreational gymnastics and entry level team opportunities. The gym opened with less than 5.000 sq. feet and has expanded twice in the past 6 years. Now at 10,500 square feet, it houses so much more than gymnastics. Our competitive teams' story can be found here however, please explore our main website to learn more about all that New Kent Gymnastics Center has to offer.
The first competitive team under NKGC was in 2011, their first season brought a Novice State champion. Team Director and women's head coach, Dayna DeShazo, joined the gym in June 2011. The next 5 years were focused on growing in both members, team levels and striving for success. Team awards and placements at in-season meets included State event titles and all around State champions. The team program is still run by Deshazo who along with other team staff, focuses on re-inventing traditional ways of training competitive gymnasts to produce champions of a new caliber.
The gym just added a more flexible competitive program running in shorter intervals then the normal annual gymnastics programs. The gym hopes this allows the strain and limitations that year round sports can place on a family to be decreased. That more youth can experience the love and joys that competitive sports can provide. The gym offers the following annual teams as well, Xcel levels, JO pre team, and JO levels 3-10.
The gym hired Head Optional coach Khary Davis last season in the summer of 2016. Under Khary and Dayna's training, the gym produced their first level 8 Region competitor. Coaches Khary and Dayna co-coach all our pre-team and JO levels along with our awesome Xcel coaches. NKGC had a successful season with 19 State champions including four All Around titles and three out of five teams placing top 10 in the State of Virginia.
