About

The NSMoH was created to showcase the long history of the area from ancient fossils to businesses of today.

Description

The Southeast Volusia Historical Society was organized in 1982, as a
not for profit organization, to promote a formal means by which
individuals interested in historical studies in the Southeast Volusia Area
may congregate for their mutual benefit; to promote the continuing
study of the cultures of the Southeast Volusia area from ancient time
to present and to bring to the attention of the general public and
appropriate governmental agencies the continuing importance of
preserving historical sites within Southeast Volusia County. The Southeast Volusia Historical Society operates the New Smyrna Museum of History.

Was more than I expected. The staff of volunteers were so friendly and knowledgeable. Had no idea of the rich history of NSB. A must. My 8 yr old son enjoyed it as well.
This is a small history museum about New Smyrna Beach. It is free. Employees are cheerful and friendly. They have numerous old photographs of people that contributed to the early development of the area. They have old artifacts that were found from early settlers. They have a few short video presentations too. They have small wooden, handmade model ships with tiny hand painted little people that accompany the ships. They have some old clothing from early settlers too. Then they have a newer room with surfing equipment and history. Visiting this museum is a pleasant way to spend some time.

If you are at all interested in local history this is a spot not to miss. A gem!!
Nice museum and nice people with some interesting items.
Great place to visit. Loved the artifacts and history.
The staff was very knowledgeable about the history and the artifacts. We enjoyed visiting this small museum to learn about our vacation spot. A nice way to spend an hour or two.
Everything is very interesting here. Donations appreciated but not required. Definitely a place to go to learn some great details about our past here in New Smyrna. We enjoyed it so very much. Thank you all for your hard work in putting this museum together.
I was disappointed that it was really a lot of reading and photographs and not a lot of artifacts. I felt like I could have just looked at a book or surfed the web instead. Not a very interactive museum, I just had high hopes after going to the military heritage museum in Punta Gorda.
Definitely worth a visit. The unassuming entry hides a lot of great history and displays. The Museum is suitable for all ages and they have great programs. I just went to one about the pottery found in the area and it was very interesting.
