Our vision was to create a museum dedicated to the history of East Coast surfing and use the appealing backdrop of this history to educate the public on the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and conserving our ocean and beaches as vibrant and healthy environments.
We interweave our presentation of the history of East Coast surfing and the surfing lifestyle with educational exhibits and opportunities in the form of displays, films, recordings, and lectures by professionals in the health and environmental science and marine conservation communities.
The Museum celebrates the legacy of East Coast surfers whose reverence for the sport, the ocean and beaches has characterized their active lifestyles and made them environmentally aware.
A primary focus is youth outreach to instill an appreciation for healthy lifestyles, surfing, the oceans and our beaches in young people.
The major long-term impact of the Museum is to help develop future generations of surfers and non-surfers who are more active, healthy and environmentally engaged.
To promote the history of the surfing culture, the people, the equipment and the use of the beach as our resource
To provide thru exhibits, film, video, music, art, books and other means of information in promoting New Smyrna Beach as a prime destination for surfing and beach culture
To educate and increase public awareness of the ocean as a great resource and value, and the responsibility we have of stewardship of the beach and ocean and its creatures
To support and honor historic preservation.
Our team:
Joel Paige produced the first New Smyrna Beach Surf Film Fest in 2013, together, these two events have made it very clear that the Culture and History of Surfing are an integral part of our community life in New Smyrna Beach.
The other committee members are no strangers to NSB. Mike Martin, Tom Wright, Ron Dreggors, and Jimmy “Fast” Lane also are now Directors.
We are proud to have added three new advisors Mike Clancy, Randy Richenberg, and Mikel Cumiskey.
