So, I had an argument with an operator on the phone when I called about my bank account. The operator called the police to do a wellness check. However, the operator is from out of state. Other states have a wellness check. Florida has a thing called the Baker Act. The police came to my house and I was confused why they were there. They told me they were taking me to the hospital and I asked why? I got scared and called my boyfriend because I was so shocked this was happening. They assaulted me while I was still on the phone. They threw my phone as they threw me around and put me in handcuffs. I was screaming and saying, "I have rights!". The male officer said, "As of now, you have no rights!" They abducted me from my front yard without shoes and left the door to my house open. I was held at the hospital and treated like a criminal for about 36 hours until a doctor finally talked to me and lifted this Baker Act thing. I could have missed work and lost my job if the doctor didn't lift it. My arms are covered in bruises and I am in so much pain. My neighbors saw this and probably think I am some kind of criminal. Complete defamation of my character. Luckily, all of this was caught on the surveillance camera on the house. Luckily, I was able to contact some agencies that are going to help me in this civil matter. I have three questions. Can I get a restraining order against the police? How does the Baker Act help anyone when they treat you like a scum when you are there for that? Who do you call for help when the police are so frightening and are allowed to abuse their authority?
I have known many police officers throughout my life, and I have to say, out of the five officers I interacted with, only ONE treated my fiancee and I like actual human beings. There is a line between doing your job to keep people safe, and being mean for no reason, and these officers certainly crossed this line. Threatening to kick people out of an event for asking questions? Cursing at drivers for driving too slowly when they're just trying to figure out where to go? Absolutley ridiculous. If they're trying to keep people from visiting their city then they're doing a fantastic job.
I was pulled over by Officer J. Castillo about a month ago. I am from Philadelphia and know a lot of guys up there and I'm super proud of them as a community resource. When I moved to Miami, I was so concerned with the policing in my neighborhood and I was finally proven wrong in my negative opinion about Miami-Dade/Beach police. He was overwhelmingly calm and professional despite the fact that I was visibly horrified. It turned into an easy going and pleasant exchange despite the ticket, lol. I travel down the same road every day and I always remember to PAY ATTENTION! I would never speed down my road so why would I speed down someone else's. So, thanks!
I believe they were a great department back in 2000 as I was going to be hired as a PSA Officer for the department, the people back then we're very warm, friendly, welcoming, the staff that interview me were great set of people indeed, just had one pRobles the forder police chief that did not like me at all,we both had a balling out as he wanted me to change shifts with his best of friends, just couldn't, because of my wife is needed to take her to work, but that was the past,if I didn't even meet the chief of police or worked under him at this security company I would of gotten the job indeed and might of made a difference there, but like I say the department was great when I was there. I knew some officers, not all. Thank you very much rob dunphy Queens NYC
The racial profiling is so ridiculous it's amazing. I've lived in NMB area over 20+ years. Each encounter 2 had been horrible. The cops were rude, disrespectful, and lied. I work in law enforcement & they NMB PD give cops a bad name. They left a disgusting taste in my mouth. Need retraining when you're dealing with the community you patrol.
The worst police department. U can die if you want too they don’t care. Serve and Protect doesn’t exist in that place.
I have lived in the North Miami Beach district for almost 30 years, even enrolled in the Community Police Academy. Having served as Aide to Broward County Commissioner's Office, I reconize the importance of voicing our opinions, especially when an employee in either City, County, or State exceeds their capacity, such was the case of Officer Joshua Kirkus. He was polite, concern4ed about issues and generally exhibited a fine attitude. In today's times, we are quick to call out police and hesitant to compliment, that is why I took the time ttttto write.
Merry Christmas to our women and men in Blue from a Army veteran. My veteran brother is in a assisted living facility. His name is Jeffery. He called to wish Merry Christmas but I didn't get to phone in time. I kept calling back for a duration no one amswered. Called the NMB police they went there I spoke with my brother. Everything's okay. Thank guys and gals for making my Christmas here in Atlanta merry#!!P.S. if you're in his area just say Hi to him
Terrible, terrible place. Pray you aren't a victim in North Miami Beach. Evidence collection doesn't take 11 hours. These officers are worse than the 8 cowards of the Broward Sheriff department who didn't go in after the shooting at Parkland and offer assistance to dying victims.
Very rude, aggressive people. Only good for the lucky ones who never see them. presumed Guilty is their motto. Works well when they happen to get a criminal... You guys must see the worst but not everyone is like that.
