Queers and Allies provides education through discussions, guest speakers, the viewing of film, and any other way deemed appropriate by the leadership of the club. As the only club dealing with sexuality, Queers and Allies sees a need to provide, and advocate for, sexual education and promote sexual safety for the campus. Also, because North Park University is a branch of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Queers and Allies strives to meet the needs of the church and the LGBTQA community by creating conversation about the tension between some people’s beliefs and lifestyles.
Through education and conversation Queers and Allies hopes to support the LGBTQA community by breaking down stereotypes and stigmas that members of North Park University’s campus might hold. Queers and Allies believes that there is a difference between a tolerating environment and a liberating environment. A tolerating environment is a place where people are allowed to coexist, and a liberating environment is a place where people are encouraged to thrive. Queers and Allies’ goal is to transform North Park University into a liberating environment where everyone is able to flourish.
