North Point State Park

Description

North Point State Park is a public recreation area located on Chesapeake Bay in Edgemere, Baltimore County, Maryland. The state park includes the site of the former Bay Shore Park, which was one of the state's premiere amusement parks during the first half of the 20th century. The park features restored remnants of the old amusement park as well as facilities for swimming, picnicking, bicycling, and hiking. Black Marsh, a 667acre state wildlands area, makes up half the park's area. The park is administered by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.HistoryThe park occupies the southeastern portion of Patapsco River Neck, a peninsula of historically agricultural use. Evidence suggests that the area was first occupied by humans 9000 years ago. During the War of 1812, it was on the route traveled by British troops intent on invading Baltimore from the southeast and several skirmishes were fought there. The site was used for farming for some three and a half centuries before becoming the site of Bay Shore Amusement Park, a popular destination for summer visitors from 1906 through 1947. Bay Shore ParkBay Shore Amusement Park (or Bay Shore Park) was built on 30 acres in 1906 by the United Railways and Electric Company of Baltimore using plans drawn up by architects Otto Simonson and Theodore Wells Pietsch. During its time, the park was a lively and attractive place offering a variety of recreations and relaxation along the Chesapeake Bay. Activities included a dance hall, bowling alley, restaurant, and pier. In addition to the trolley/streetcar from Baltimore, visitors could reach the park by steamboat from Baltimore to the park pier. Jimmy Doolittle won the Schneider Trophy seaplane race held at the park in 1925, an event attended by aviation pioneers Orville Wright and Glenn L. Martin.

Great place to take the kids swimming if you don't want to head to the ocean, water is shallow so its more safe for children. There are quite a bit of rocks you have to make it over with bare feet before the sand. Sometimes the water can be cloudy but still great quiet place to cool down or spend time in nature.
We chose a beautiful day to come to the park. We had a long walk out to the jetty and back The sky was just as blue and beautiful it could be. We walked many trails here. It was very clean very surprised but that was good. We will be back.
Great park with trails for biking and walking/hiking. This is a great place to take the family to fish. Plenty of bbq grills and places to set up a picnic or cookouts. The admission is $4
Amazing place to fish! Went for the first time today and my husband caught two catfish 18 inches each! One within 30 seconds of touching the water and the other one before we left, along with 2 spots! We were there for 3 hours! Wonderful view GOING BACK FOR SURE!!!!
Morning trip Saturday before Memorial Day weekend for equal opportunity jetty fishing willing to catch anything that bites the hook. Biked trails near jetty. Well defined and easy to moderate terrain, crush & run to compact dirt, to matted grass. Got a little snakey on the rocks as they heated up from a cool overnight. Don't blindly reach into the rock for dropped tackle. 1st time I've seen snakes come out of the rocks as they did but they were sunning & not aggressive. Overall nice, quiet park. Well maintained. Great views of the upper bay around Fort Howard. Though trolley Pavillion is closed for renovation, plenty of picnic tables & grills.
Love this State Park! Costs a couple bucks to get in, but it keeps the place will maintained even with a visitor center. Been there about 30 times and the visitor center has only been open once on the times I could go though lol. They're very friendly. There's a water fountain outside of the visitor center even if they're closed though which is nice. Almost all flat ground with miles of trails and plenty of water view. Grills for cookouts too! Many people choose the rocks to go fishing also.
Always have love for this park. Playgrounds, picnic area, restrooms are always clean, & the people are friendly.
This is one of my favorite places to visit. Great for a nice light hike. There are several trails. Nice fishing spots. Great for walking with your leashed dog. *note * just a heads up, dogs are not allowed on the beach where people swim.
A surprisingly small, sharp little rocks and shells and such beach and an admission of $4 for state residents definitely brought the overall rating down but the water is great with it never coming above shoulder level. Also, I dug a hole as everyone should. The view and wind and sun make it a great place to just relax and appreciate life however short it may be.
Nice small beach. Lots of parking, although the ranger told me it gets very crowded sometimes on weekends. The trails are better for hiking than biking. They can be extremely bumpy. Great hidden gems along the trails.
