Shoutout the officers that helped me today when I so embarrassingly ran into a ditch right on a curve. My nerves were instantly put to rest when they arrived and started to direct traffic so that I wouldn’t get hit and traffic wouldn’t stop. My insurance was taking too long to get a tow truck to me so they called in a tow for me and I was able to get out of the ditch. One of the officers name was D. swayer- I didn’t catch the other officers name but they were very patient and calm. Thank you!
I'm going to give a shout out to the two police officers who assisted me this evening with my flat tire, I'm not really good with names but he wears a big white cowboy hat. I know he said the other one's name was Miller. I really appreciate their kindness and their willingness to assist thank you.
So this is a different point of view. I am a single mom of 3 kiddos. And unfortunately had to turn myself In to sit out tickets/ warrants. I owed alot! And the Judge was so kind and VERY lenient. On top of that I was able to be a trustee and work off an extra day. During my time there, it's already and enough that you have to be in there right. The officers were surprisingly pleasant and very kind to me. I was there for 4 days and they were as accommodating as they could possibly be. I'm grateful just for thier extra attention and kindness as we know they dont have to be and others might abuse their authority. So thank you to the North Richland Hills police who operate the jail facility. As they were overly helpful to make a bad situation Not worse. Thank you.
I've had some run in with the local police here. For the most part they are honest but there are 2 snakes on the force. Be careful when you drive because they have dedicated revenue generators on motorcycles that forget to protect and love to serve....citations that is. It's all about money folks on every level in this city. Overall I feel very safe in this city but do wish they would enforce texting while driving and have marked cars in the neighborhood more often. Maybe I live in a better part of the city but no matter.... I would like to see them protecting on my street more often. Contemplating moving here? Do it. Great schools, great policing but not business friendly.
Wanted to give a big applause to NRH police department who are awesome! Two very kind officers came out when I called the non-emergency number trying to get in touch with animal control. We had a “critter” in the chimney trying to get out of the rain and they came to our rescue! Very polite and understanding. I was very appreciative! Thanks guys!
At my apartment complex, there was a large group of people making a lot of noise directly outside of my bedroom window. We asked them to quiet down to no avail. At 2 in the morning, we got fed up and called the police. They dispatched 2 officers right away, who arrived very quickly and warned them politely. After the police officers left, the people kept being loud. I was really disappointed until the officers came back a few minutes later! The people actually left that time, and I'm very grateful that the officers had the foresight to come back. Thanks:
More than once they have pulled my husband and me over for no reason while we were driving home. Apparently it's suspicious to drive after midnight. We don't get to go out a lot but when our son is able to stay with my mom we like to go get dinner and hang out late. The other night we were coming home a little after midnight. We were driving the speed limit, driving safely and using turn signals. We were pulled over a block from from out house because the lisence plate light was supposedly out. The officer made my husband do a field sobriety test he had one glass of wine with dinner over 3 hours prior and I'm not sure why. The officer he called for backup said that this is how they "make contact with the community " and tried to reassure that this stop wasn't just an excuse to pull us over because case law gives them the right to pull us over. 20 minutes later, after I'm sure most of our neighbors saw us pulled over we were allowed to leave after they determined my husband was in fact very sober. We got home and lo and behold the lisence plate light was "fixed"! ....go figure. The arbitrary nature of the officers actions still bothers us. I wasnt able to find a complaint section on their website and im sure if I called it would go no where. From what I've heard this is pretty par for the course for NRH. Doing anything after midnight is suspicious, I wish I had known NRH had a curfew.
Had a recent episode of a drug addict on my property clearly high on something other than pot, called and reported it to dispatch and the NRH officers responded very promptly and handled the situation accordingly. Very simple call but come to find out the women had a warrant for her arrest the officers reacted with professionalism and a degree of citizen safety 1st. Thank you fellas cold one on me of I ever see you at a local bar!
Like most cities, there are great police and then some not-so-good. Regardless, I would rather them be there, than not be there, to look out for us. I DO respect the police and teach my daughters to do the same. But, my daughter has been a car with friends and have been pulled-over TWICE in NRH. They've been searched. The car searched. Then nothing found, but held for about an hour each time, while they searched. These aren't clunkers, but cars that are in good condition and drivers having no records! I've been pulled over for exceeding the speed limit and given a warning. So, a good experience for me, but definitely some issues with pulling-over and doing drug searches on the younger generation unnecessarily. Both times my daughter and her friends were "freaked-out" by the whole situation, and wonder "why us??" I used to live in Boston, MA. The police there keep a friendly/we're apart of your community attitude. There is a lot of mutual respect and the police are both respected and appreciated. Other cities could learn a lot from cities like Boston. They don't "harrass" people, hoping to find something, but rather focus on real crime. They are not perfect, as we are all human, and all humans make mistakes. But, the time the NRH police spent searching a car for an hour, hoping to find something, they could have been catching a drunk driver, etc.
It's sometimes hard to support the blue when they mess with your wife. Today she was pulled over near the library for a supposed rolling stop by a guy on a bike. She didn't know what was going on as the officer kept harshly gesturing her to pull over. He did let her off with a warning but she felt unsafe at one point. They were apparently doing their usual sting operation with a whole bunch of cars pulled over in an area where you can't even go fast. I try to avoid going through this town if at all possible. I guess they can't block traffic on 820 anymore so they have to find new adventures to keep them employed.
