Mrs. Qammi helped me with my state in tuition applying process. She was extremely patient with us and was very nice. She is the best administrator there is. We drove all the way to Loudon campus to be seen by her because she is so awesome! Out of all the other administrators I will highly recommend you to meet with her. She was very professional and calm! If you want someone who understands your situation and empathizes with you and helps you take your time with everything, you should definitely meet with her!
They try to take your money anytime they can. Between parking violations, processing fees, not crediting transfer credit classes, and more. Not to mention it’s impossible to reach anyone unless you go in person. In person they still don’t know what they’re doing. I wish I never went here in the first place.
Campus is renovated time to time. Lots of activities and courses to offer !! The buidlings are spread on a beautiful campus with small artificial pond in the middle.. Ample of parking space.
I signed up to take Spanish 101 and I specifically picked a class that said "fully online, no meeting times". Surprise! The professor decides we do have to meet and it is a part of our grade. She picks a time right in the middle of the work day and I asked her if there is anything we can do since again I specifically signed up for a class without meeting times. She messaged me back and said "No, maybe a different university would be better for you". The only reason this is getting two stars is because Erica at the call center was amazing and helped me drop the class with a full refund. She even confirmed on her side that the class was supposed to be fully online, no meeting times. I feel completely lied to by NOVA and I am also completely in shock that this professor cared so little about the students and their education that her only suggestion was to enroll in another university. I do not recommend NOVA and if you want to go to a community college in Virginia, go down to Germanna.
They haven't cut their rear fields in over a month, resulting in ~2ft tallgrass, which promotes an influx of things like snakes, ticks, gnats, mosquitos, etc. COVID is bad enough, I don't need an Eastern Copperhead biting my leg, Lyme Disease from a tick, or a host of other viruses/diseases from mosquitos on top of the pandemic. MOW IT ALREADY!
1 Star because there are some good professors and the staff is nice and welcoming. Whoever, most counselors there do NOT know anything not even how to use the computer !!! I have went to almost every single one of them before graduating from nova and throughout the semester. They assign you the wrong classes to take which will cost you lots of money, time and energy. Ran through 4 graduation counselors and non of them knew when they deadline to apply for certain colleges. They did not know how to apply to transfer institution or how to start your application. I got shocked everytime I met one of them to see how they do not know how to go to websties and use the computer. The campus has no activities and no life. At 2PM daily 90% of the students go home.
I would give this college zero stars if I could. Three weeks before the end of my first semester, I still have not been assigned an advisor. I've had a psych teacher who wrote a hateful 800 word reply when I asked a simple question, an English teacher who DOES NOT HAVE AN ENGLISH DEGREE, and an art professor who DID NOT KNOW THE TRUE PRIMARIES. 9/10 professors at this college are incompetent and completely under qualified to teach the subject assigned to them. Faculty turnover appears to be very high because of the hostile and disorganized conditions. Seriously, the quality of education here is not worth any of your time or money. Do your research, look at their incredibly poor graduation rates and the ratemyprofessors reviews for their instructors. This institution is a joke.
Do not waste your money and time with this collage. They provide with old revisions of books even thought the exams are going to held for upgraded versions only. Not even the instructors provide any help with upgraded resources. My instructor advised me of buying more material than what is supposed to be included in the course fee. Very Desiving:
Some professors can be very uneducated here and do not even know what their talking about! They would not engage properly and won’t care about your grade a single bit! I’ve had the worst professors at this campus who would talk less and expect more from you. Don’t go on the good reviews if your not good in the subject it will only stress you out later. I’ve tried other campuses and they were way better than this location at teaching in the best way possible.
I went to NOVA for my last year of high school in the Dual Enrollment program. Overall all of the teachers I had were pretty good. Most of the teachers taught at area Universities as well as NOVA so the education quality is practically the same. The professors are pretty fair and responsible and are always available during office hours for help. I actually found the work at NOVA a easier than High School. The bad is there is absolutely no social life. The campuses are sprung all over Northern Virginia. You could take classes at the 3rd floor of a office building or at campus with 5 buildings. There are some clubs and teams but I do not believe that they are very popular. I went to a meeting for a club sport and no one showed up. I was the only that came. You show up for class and leave it is basically a commuter school. Also the bookstore will rip you off so I would advise you not to buy books there. Renting the books is the biggest scam. If you carry the books to class in the rain they will make you pay for new books saying that damage to them has been significant. The campus police basically will do whatever it takes to try to either give you a ticket or moving violation. At the End of the Day NOVA goal is to try to get as much money out of you even though they preach about saving you money and try to make the smart decision So come to NOVA first. You will get out of it a pretty good education with the credits transferring to most universities. What you wont get is a social or many friends. You at the end of the day will most likely still feel ripped of after going here for a while by the hidden fees, bookstore prices, or police tickets. NOVA is not a horrible place but it will not leave you with any memories.
