I am so disappointed with their services. I had to wait 8 weeks for an appointment for severe headaches and neck pain; 6 months for a physical. My doctor is good and helpful, but getting seen is frustrating. They don't even seem to care about how long it takes to be seen. They just make excuses.
My family and I are new patients at Northshire Medical center after Shaftsbury Medical closed. I went through the process of having our medical records transferred and they called stating that if you need an appointment we were all set just to call and schedule. A few weeks later I got hurt at work and needed stitches so I called. After jumping through flaming hoops I finally got in. After first being told the urgent care or express care was closed I asked to speak to a triage nurse and miraculously got an appointment. While scheduling that appointment I was told that if I did not schedule appointments for myself and my family we would loose our new patient status and no longer be patients at the practice. So I scheduled physicals for all of us. My son two months from now, my husband and myself not until the beginning of next year. 10 days later my son is ill and needs to see the dr. I was repeatedly told there were no appointments available. His condition worsened and I called the on call dr who did not call back for 2 hours at which point I had already taken him to the er. I did get in touch with a patient advocate who has been amazing. She just called me and informed me that we can not make sick visits with this practice until after our physicals. Essentially if one of us gets sick between now and then we have to go to express care or the Emergency Room. None of this was explained to me when I was scheduling these appointments… none of this was explained to me when I called for a sick visit. How does this happen? How is this not mentioned during multiple attempts to get an appointment? I get being short staffed… but this is a huge piece of information and Completely unacceptable!
I have been a patient for over 20 years with a revolving door of primary physicians. I recently called to make an appointment and I was put on hold to talk to a nurse. After explaining what my ailment was - while trying to talk above the dogs barking in the background - she put me on hold to schedule an appointment. She got back and told me that I have not been there in a couple of years and I am now considered a new patient - and they are not accepting new patients and to call the doctor finder.
I was here about 5 years ago and the service was terrible. I had left a bad review and I swore that I would never come back again. My doctor retired and my files were sent to this facility. I had heard that this facility had new staffing so I decided to give them another chance. My experience was a good one. I want to give a special shout out to Patty at the front desk for being professional and nice to me. I also was to acknowledge Danielle who was very thorough and nice as well. Above all, I want to give special recognition to Dr. Schwartz for going above and beyond his role. He was Attentive, Kind, Caring and made me feel good. He absolutely DID NOT rush me like others Doctors do and he took his time to listen to me and resolve my issues. Thank you Northshire for turning things around and for making my visit a pleasure. I WILL tell everyone about my great experience and I hope that this good customer that I received will be consistent with everyone that walks in your door. Thank you.
Absolutely ZERO sense of urgency here. They would rather drag their feet and wait 5 minutes until something is due to send it over, hindering children from their education yet another day. Request was made over 24 hours before fulfilled. Literally needed to print records off a computer. Absolutely pathetic.
All aspects of this medical practice are outstanding. Dr. Schwartz has been our provider—caring and thorough. We could not live in this Area without Northshire Medical.
I was a patient for years but as more and more providers have left the majority of the care has fallen to PA's and NP with poor bedside manner and skeptical combative attitudes. The added stress of the express care has put even more on the providers making it difficult to get an appointment lasting more than a few minutes. After a year without a PC assigned to me and being sent home with an ear infection that continued to worsen and kidney stones that landed me in the ER after a month and several Express care visits and phone calls without follow up I found a new practice.
Have been a patient for years and have interacted with several of the Medical and support staff over the years. I have always been treated with care and respect. My physician, Robert Schwartz, is outstanding and always has time to discuss issues and treatments.
I went here a few years ago because I was feeling anxious, fatigued, lethargic, depressed, super weak, and had a migraine and stomach discomfort. I told this to the nurse who promptly left the room afterwards. I heard her recap my symptoms to the doctor right outside the door and I heard her say she thought I "was being dramatic and wanted some attention." She said she didn't think anything was wrong with me and I heard the doctor respond by saying, "There are a lot of girls like that who just want attention. I'll give her a blood test to see if it makes her calm down." Then the young male brunette doctor came into the room and asked me how I was feeling. He probably had no idea I could hear their conversation but it made me really upset and I obviously didn't feel very talkative after overhearing that. Only talking to me for a minute, the doctor said that he honestly thought I sounded fine but he would do a blood test to see how my iron levels were to see if I was anemic. The other nurse who took my blood was nice, but it ended up taking over a week to get my bloodwork results back when they said it should only take one or two days. I had to call the front desk every couple of days to try to get a hold of my results. They kept saying the doctor I saw would call me back with the results but it took me at least 3 phones calls over the course of two weeks to get him to call me back to say that I was slightly anemic, but he wasn't very concerned. That was it. I was also out of state so I had to pay out of pocket for that one upsetting appointment that cost $400. Looking back, I'm always super disappointed that neither the nurse or the doctor thought to redirect me to a mental health professional if I was feeling depressed and anxious, but I've heard that's pretty common among primary care doctors. To make a long story short... I was diagnosed with Celiac's Disease autoimmune disease the year after that AND that is why I had all of those symptoms at the same time. I also had a blood panel done around my Celiac diagnosis that showed that I was vitamin deficient for every single type of vitamin, which is why my physical and mental health were both doing terribly and I was super weak. Also, every other doctor who has taken my blood before and after the one at SVMC Northshire did, has told me that I was anemic so I'm not sure why he didn't seem concerned with my results... Even though this is one of the only places you can visit in southern Vermont for medical help, I would HIGHLY recommend making the drive to Bennington instead...
When you live 25 miles from the nearest hospital, the availability of a good primary care practice, with available emergency care, becomes very important. My family and I have been patients here since the practice started many years ago in a different location. Through many changes in providers and staff we have received qualified care and compassionate and helpful advice. Medical care, like much else, has changed over those years, and thank God we have had reliable care through those transitions from what I still think of as Northshire Medical Center.
