The mission of the Norwich Underwater Search and Rescue Team is to provide professionally trained divers and rescue personnel to the scene of any water related emergency for the purpose of victim rescue/recovery. The Norwich Underwater Search and Rescue Team shall be the first due primary water rescue unit within the City of Norwich’s geographical area but shall be willing and capable to respond to incidents outside of Norwich as a specially called resource when so required.
The Norwich Underwater Search and Rescue Team shall be trained to respond professionally and appropriately to both fresh water and saltwater emergencies occurring either inshore or offshore with the assistance of existing fire, police and government agencies.
The Norwich Underwater Search and Rescue Team shall be trained to respond professionally and appropriately to emergencies occurring in fresh water including but not limited to lakes, ponds, marshes, and rivers.
The Norwich Underwater Search and Rescue Team anticipates being utilized as a crime evidence/vehicle recovery unit for local and state police agencies when so requested.
In the hope of preventing a water related tragedy, the Norwich Underwater Search and Rescue Team will, when invited, provide public education to targeted audiences on water safety and ice safety issues.
