Classic govt building experience - kind of like the DMV. We only picked up our license here - it was alright. But you can still make it fun! infuse your personality into the visit! Bring a photographer or friend. Carry flowers. People watch. Whatever works for you during your special weeks.
Literally had to travel to NYC in person just to be let down and told that they couldn't help me. Now I have to spend more money for another application for my marriage certificate. Seriously pathetic of you ask me. I no longer live in NY, so going there was a huge waste of time and money! Seriously messed up!
Incredibly rude. I have emailed and called numerous times since 2020 to see what I need to obtain my mother’s marriage certificate she lives abroad and needs it for immigration purposes and every time I called, NO ONE was able to tell me what I needed. Every time I’d call, they would say “I don’t know”, “Just look at the website” or “just email them”. I have emailed and NO ONE has responded. I sent the form to request the marriage certificate along with documentation through mail with proof as to why I need it along with documentation that proves that I’m the daughter since no one was able to tell me EXACTLY what I needed and my request got rejected. I went in person with all documentation that proves why I need the marriage certificate for my mother and they didn’t even bother to listen to me. They kept interrupting me and didn’t even look at the documents that I had with me as proof. They just kept handing me the same paper over and over again and were clearly in a rush to get me out of there. They were very unprofessional, unresponsive and utterly unhelpful with no willingness to help me solve this issue. I understand that I need something written from my mother authorizing me to get the marriage certificate but WHY WAS NO ONE ABLE TO TELL ME THAT BEFORE OVER THE PHONE? I have been calling and asking for information for over SIX MONTHS! I am dealing with a time sensitive immigration process with my mother and they were unable to work something out with me. The pictures below show that they handed me the same exact document three times and didn’t even realize it because they were in such a rush to get me out of there. The other picture is to show that they didn’t even want to listen to what I had to say and just handed me the form to request the marriage certificate although I already had that filled out.
I just called the Manhattan location and spoke to Jacqueline who was the sweetest person ever! Not only was she sweet, but she was so helpful. I had a concern about our marriage certificate and ceremony appointment being so close together, and she put my fears at ease. Please don't listen to the negative reviews. They DO answer the phone and they DO help, and they are NOT rude. Thank you Jacqueline! You made my day :
I cannot believe how quickly and easily the process went here--both for applying for the marriage license and for getting married we returned exactly one week later. The first step is to go through metal detectors and run your bags through the x-ray machine, and that was one of the longest waits--and it was not long. Be ready with your whole party before you go in for your wedding because once you get your number it can go quickly. We were called up to the window to pay and fill out the paperwork within 20 minutes of arriving at 10am on a Thursday in December and it was 12/12, which some had warned me might be a "special" date that others would want. All told we were probably done in 40 minutes, and we took our time taking photos in front of the City Hall backdrop that's there. The general mood is good and of course the others there with you are in good spirits too! Highly recommend.
I went to this place to get a copy of my marriage license which I lost. And I had no issues getting the new one. I waited maybe 45 minutes and I was able to get what I needed.
The happiest place on earth! Everyone has HUGE smiles on their faces, the employees are fantastic, the people watching is incredible. We were honored to be a part of this wonderful institution today By all means fill the forms out online before arrival and follow the instructions, we're glad that we did. Love wins!
This experience was incredibly stressful but ended up working out in the end so I wanted to let other people know. I needed a copy of my marriage records for immigration purposes. I submitted by mail my request on Feb. 4th and received my marriage records exactly six weeks later on March 18th. I was never able to get ahold of them via phone I called probably 100 times or by email or twitter. They did eventually respond to a request sent online after two weeks but by then I already received the records. So for people that are stressed thinking they can't get their records, they are processing them it will take about 6 weeks. If you are able to fly there and get it taken care of in person that seems to be the way to go, through Project Cupid you can find appointments and cancellations throughout the week.
Omg! The staff and the Court Police here were so great on 4/27/2022. My husband and I had a 3:30 appt for our ceremony and like any other woman...I was running late. My husband and our witness were on the inside waiting on me to arrive. Where was I you ask? Stuck in traffic still in Brooklyn trying to get to the Brooklyn Bridge. Now the last appt for this place is at 3:45 and then they lock the place up like Fort Knox . Well they waited for me till the very last minute, I mean the staff clocks out at 4pm and I pulled up to the court house at 3:59. They allowed us to have our ceremony and I am eternally grateful to the officers who gave us the opportunity to make it there when they didn't have to and the staff for making our day possible. Love really does conquer all....even time.
I wanted to get married on the Fourth of July 2016 but the office was closed. Here's what I remember of the following day... It was hot, it was crowded and it was somewhat embarrassing and awkward, in a venereal disease clinic sort of way: all shapes, sizes, ages and colors and everyone knew why everyone else was there. For me it was a simple administrative function, utilitarian at best, to which no sentimentality attached. Well into our sixties, first time for both of us. I don't remember the ceremony; I don't remember who said, "I do," first. Here is what I do remember: being ushered into a spartan bare-bones room by a woman with garishly discordant blue hair who uttered lines she had delivered countless times before in mechanical fashion and mispronounced both of our names. Memorable, alright
