Description
The Oldest Wooden School House, also known as The Genopoly House, is the oldest wood frame building still in existence in St. Augustine today. It was built over 250 years ago while Florida was under the rule of Imperial Spain. Though the exact date of construction is unknown, it first appears on tax records in 1715. It is constructed of red cedar and cypress and put together with wooden pegs and handmade nails. Classes were held in the front room while the schoolmaster and his family lived upstairs.
