Oleander Memorial Gardens-Dignity Provider
"At Oleander Memorial Gardens, we have proudly served the Wilmington, North Carolina, community since 1967. From the moment you enter our cemetery property, you begin to experience a sense of peacefulness and solitude. The magnificent live oak trees adorned with flowing Spanish moss set the mood for reflection and pleasant memories of family and close friends."

My father died from covid-19 in October 4, 2020. The following week my mother wrote a sizeable check for a double-urn stone where she too would one day be placed. She decided on the design of the 9"x9" placard that would cover his urn. Today is March 16th, 2020, more than 5 months after my dad's death and his placard is still not in place. Frustrated for my mom, myself, my brother, and our family, I called to inquire about its status. I spoke with the office manager first, who seemed genuinely concerned. She promised to call me back with info after trying to explain that covid had delayed the engraving company from taking care of the etching... 5. Months. Later. An hour or so later, I got a call from a gentleman from the cemetery. He half-heartedly tried to be empathetic and said a tentative ship date was March 15th. Begrudgingly I thanked him for the call and expressed my confusion, frustration, and disappointment with their company... 5 months! I could have walked the placard to Georgia, waited for the engraving, then walked back in 5 months! My brother was notified last Wednesday, March 10th, that the placard had arrived! We were all relieved and looking forward to a small step toward closure. He was promised the placard would be placed by the end of the week. My brother should've asked which week. My mom went by the cemetery on Saturday to find the placard not in place. More disappointment. She and I drove through today, Tuesday, March 16th, to find no placard in place. My mom's face fell again. 5 months! It's beyond my comprehension that time after time, we could be downright lied to and put off. You want to know what DIDN'T take 5 months to happen? It didn't take 5 months for them to cash that check my mom wrote! That was done almost immediately.
I love that this cemetery is well cared for. I love all the trees and the pond. However, I find it infuriating that the back gate is almost always locked. My aging Mother tries to visit my father there, she has a hard time driving in heavy traffic, and has a hard time getting in and out in Oleander Dr.. We have repeatedly asked that the back gates be left open during daylight hours and have been told no. We were told we could call ahead and ask for the gates to be unlocked, but find this very confining. Very frustrating.
Beautiful place for a loved one's final rest. Peaceful & kept very clean. Your privacy seems important.
