Onondaga township fire rescue is a rural paid on call fire dept that covers 36 square miles which border eaton and jackson county . The dept has a 30 member roster with half the members trained in medical and firefighting from MFR thru paramedic and some just firefighters with a cheif an asst. cheif 1 capt. 2 lieutenants a safety officer and a training officer . the station is currently running 2 engines 1261 as first due engine and 1260 as the second due engine/rescue , 2 tankers 1262 as first due carrying 3300 gallons of water and 1263 that is second due with 3000 gallons of water , 2 grass rigs/draft trucks 1266 being first due that is equiped with a 300 gallon wild fire skid mount unit and draft pump and 1265 is second due with 100 gallons of water and a front mount draft pump , and last is rescue 1264 that handles all first due rescue/mfr calls and is equiped with jaws for extrication the dept has been in service since the late 60s and used the original station up until the new one was built in late 1994 just before engine 1261 was built and put into service . the dept averages 220 runs a year most as medical first responder runs .
