Not an “Urgent Care.” Staff turned away a 60yr old patient with Covid-19 after the patient was told by doctors to go to urgent care. Optum would not see the patient and only offered a video call with a PA later in the day. Extremely disappointed with the lack of service and care, would go to any other urgent care before coming here again
After checking with insurance, I was told I could bring my mom here. We were walk-in urgent care, and we were seen within 10 minutes, Shawn Plowman PA helped us, and lemme tell you, from now on, I am also coming here and I will bring my kids if we ever need help! Nicest, kindest doctor I have ever met! Super kind with my mom and he was able to test my mom and checked her symptoms and her tummy and everything! Prescribed her some meds and off we went. Super happy with the treatment from everyone as well! Front desk was kind, nurse was kind as well, you can tell they do enjoy helping people. Thank you! Gracias!
Front office staff are warm and helpful. The MA staff are efficient and responsive. Shawn Plowman Physican on duty, was attentive at listening and patient with explanations. He is knowledgeable, kind, and brings a calm, respectful presence. I appreciate that the urgent care has appointments and walk in options; bonus is that it is connected to my Dr.s office as it's part of the Optum group. I had several good experiences.
For starters the only reason they are getting two stars is for Shawn Plowman. He is the best. Dr. Klein is good, but Shawn is amazing. I have been to this office a few times and, before this last visit, have been pretty pleased with it. However, something has changed. The front office woman who assisted me this last time with signing in was extremely unhelpful. She immediately notified me that my insurance expired. I explained that yes the policy on file expired, but I have a new policy info through my husband. Same company, new policy info. She said, "no it's expired." I again said yes I know what you have is expired, I have new coverage. I then had my husband who was with me pull out his card to show her we both had valid coverage through his work. She said okay. Then she tells me my copay is $0 which I say okay to, and then proceeds to ask me for a prepayment towards services of $60. I asked her why and she said she was instructed to ask for that by billing. I said no and told her you can bill insurance for the full amount as you always have. Which she didn't seem to like, but agreed to with a short "well if you weren't prepared to pay today, I can put it through insurance." >>>>>>> FAST FORWARD >>>>>>>> Honestly, this was in February. I wasn't even going to bother with this review, and then I got my bill. A bill for the full amount. Insurance picked up nothing. I called the 800# and they said the insurance policy listed on the claim had expired. Come to find out she never updated my insurance. -_- Seriously you had one job. Now, I get to spend 15+ minutes on the phone fixing your error. Disappointing that such great docs have such lacking front office help. Thanks but no thanks. My family will be taking our business elsewhere.
The only positive thing about my visit was that I was immediately seen by a staff member. It went downhill from there. I was seen by a PA who told me that based on the office urinalysis I did not have an infection and that I should consult a urologist. A few days later and before my appointment with the urologist, the symptoms returned. I then went to another Urgent Care facility, affiliated with our local hospital and while the Nurse Practitioner confirmed that the office urinalysis did not indicate an infection, the sample would be sent out for a culture to completely rule the infection root cause of my symptoms. The NP also explained other possible causes for what Im experiencing based on the activities I had been doing high altitude hiking while the PA at Optmum simply said I have no infection and painted the darkest possible scenario for my symptoms. I would never go back to them again.
Convenient and time effective. I love that its close to home and that we can see a Dr pretty fast for our general needs. Drs Klein and Dr Cuenca are both great Drs! Dr Klein had to take sea urchin out of my husbands foot after retuning from Maui and all went quite well. We haven't seen the third Dr. The staff in the reception area is typical of most Drs offices. Just a couple of minor hiccups with regards to scheduling and correctly billing a physical but honestly no more than most offices we have been to. I wouldn't let that discourage you from seeing these Drs. We haven't had any issues with being billed incorrectly after the fact or insurance not covering all of the services we have needed. It's always good to check with your insurance directly before seeing any Dr to make sure they really cover them.
The attending physician barely spent any time diagnosing what was wrong when I came in with a fever, body aches and terrible cough. He sent me home with a z pack after spending less than five minutes with me and I ended up at the ER with pneumonia four days later. I’ll never go back there - what a waste of time and days I could’ve spent getting better. Horrible experience.
This used to be my go-to urgent care. I get sick a lot because I am a preschool teacher and I’ve always been quickly diagnosed and prescribed medication to help me get over whatever I might be experiencing strep throat, ear infection, pneumonia. Over the weekend I woke up with a really sore throat and difficulty swallowing. I went to the urgent care right away because I knew I needed specific medication if I was fighting strep throat and wanted to get it as soon as possible so I wouldn’t have to miss work. After explaining my symptoms to the doctor and saying that strep is common in the preschool environment, he treated me as if I were simply fighting a mild cold and allergies. He told me to take some ibuprofen and recommended some nasal spray. The next day my throat was at the point where I couldn’t even swallow no more ibuprofen for me and my nose was on fire from the two doses of nasal spray I had taken. I visited another urgent care and was told I had strep throat. I am really disappointed with the Ladera Ranch location because the doctor didn’t even swab me for strep throat just to be sure. I won’t be coming back here.
Two Words: Shawn Plowman. I have been seeing him for Years!! He is the reason I come here and I feel like everyone else comes here asking for him too. I don’t even live in OC anymore and will drive to Ladera still if I’m sick. He not only is personable, compassionate, goes above and beyond, and is extremely smart and incredibly knowledgeable ... but has the best personality!!! His professional background is what gives him real world experience too. I thought twice about reviewing because I’m selfish & I didn’t really want everyone else booking him too lol but thought this might help people. He’s literally the only doctor I’ve ever fully trusted for me and my child, and he will go out of his way to make you feel comfortable and taken care of : i know he’s won many awards too. I hope he never leaves!
Personally I had no problem with the attitude of the staff and I'd actually like to commend the male nurse for being a cool guy. Problematically, however, I received no care from this office upon entering with a severe sore throat that was developing rapidly which I had believed to be strep. After a rapid strep test came back negative, the doctors did nothing for me and sent me home. With my high school anatomy knowledge and the power of Google I was able to self diagnose and realize that there was a 95% chance I had a bacterial infection due to the lack of reasonable alternatives and self prescribed myself an adult dosage of Keflex which I also discovered on Google. My symptoms had progressively worsened, and with no word back from the office despite communication efforts, I was going to have to wait a week to get the results- prompting me to self-medicate. Less than 24 hours later most of my symptoms have resided and I feel comparably in great health. tl;dr Google did more for me than these doctors and it didn't cost me a dime.
