So many amazing authentic lodges, interesting artifacts, and very helpful descriptions. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Their garden and gift shop are adorable. A must see if you’re on the island!
Interesting look at early settlers/white euro homestead cabins. Minimal info and some displays are not terribly coherent, however the cabins themselves are quite impressive. Good for a local historical museum.
Learned a bit of what early island life was like. Great opportunity to see different types of cabins in the area. Really neat place.
Compact museum with 100+ year old cabins full of artifacts. Lots of great information on Orcas Island history.
What a wonderful gem in downtown, wonderful history, the original cabins from the early settlers on the island, great pieces of history preserved. Very enjoyable!
I'm a history buff so this type of place is right up my alley. In any place I visit, I make it a point to learn about its history and get an understanding of how it came to be the way that it is. I got a really good snapshot of how the communities developed on the island and there were some excellent artifacts to behold to go along with the stories of early settlers. It's not too information heavy which is actually good so you won't be spending all day there. Just enough to learn some solid information but not too much to be overwhelming. Entry donation/fee was cheap so a highly affordable way to spend some time. I would have given it five stars but my only critic is the lack of information about Native Americans prior to white settlers. Coming from the American Southwest, I have a deep appreciation for our Indigenous cultures and I feel like they should be better represented in an establishment like this. Definitely recommend this though!
Great museum to learn about local history. Well kept and interesting exhibits. Takes about 15-20 minutes to go through.
It's a super cute museum with some rich history inside. Small but worth a visit. Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
It's a very nice place to visit.
Small but richly curated museum. Gives you a real feel for what it must have been like to live on Orcas in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when it was a lot rougher than today. The one room cabin where something like 10 people lived gives you an idea how different it was. A good place to poke around for an hour, maybe more if you are a hardcore history buff.
