Description

The Orinda Theatre was opened in 1941 and was built by Donald Rheem, with architect Alexander Aimwell Cantin. Slated for demolition in 1984, it was saved through the efforts of preservationists and reopened in 1989, when 2 additional screens were added. The original lobby and main theatre were left intact. The murals in the #2 added theatre were saved from the Garden Theatre in San Jose when it was demolished. Beautiful theatre. Choice of first run movies plus special EVENTS such as comedy nights, and classic movies! BEER ON TAP & SPECIALTY COCKTAILS!!! Layered butter popcorn if you know, you know! Excellent service, congenial staff. Gorgeous original 1940's lobby decor, and beautiful themed theatre rooms. Free parking. Reasonable pricing. THEEE BEST!!!
No lines even thought popular, just-released film. Comfortable seats, lots of snacks, drinks, etc . Parking in public next door lot and theater validates it. Then dinner at the Japanese restaurant a few steps away. Wonderful evening.
Best classic movie palace! Staff is super friendly, awesome drinks and food. If you don't go your missing out!
I can't believe how nice and respectful all the employees were. These days you very seldom find young people who are that nice. Made me so happy. Great job
I love the beautiful Orinda theater and all of its history. It is such a gorgeous setting to see a movie. I would like to continue to support this venue and I hope you will as well. I think it would be a great place for weddings as well. I can visualize an art deco wedding there.
The theater and owner are really fantastic. The decor of the theater was so amazing that my 5 year old even exclaimed about it! Everyone we met was fantastic and made for a very enjoyable family outing! Thank you for the treat!
Excellent nice experience 9.30 pm show every 3er Saturday of the month. to wach. Old movies
This is a well maintained old school theater. Image and sound quality are better than expected, and there is always a good seat in the main theater. Come on over to Orinda and have a beer, wine or dinner before or after!
My Very First Live show! I love The Orinda Theater. It’s architecture is very impressive! So Stunning! The Owner Mr. Derek Zemrak is very kind. He gave us a tour explaining it’s history to us. I really recommend anyone to come and embrace this beautiful energy. Every Detail is very unique.
Nice old school Deco theater with incredible artwork on the walls. Sad they don’t give tours and talk about the history of building. It’s a real gem. Parking is not bad, but might take a bit. There are two wonderful restaurants net two the theater. Petra which is Greek. Very good, eaten here. Countless times. The Japanese restaurant in the square is very good as well Don’t care for any of the other restaurants in the square.
