As the Clerk of the Circuit Court, my responsibility is to keep and protect public records and to make them available when requested, pursuant to Florida Statutes, Chapter 119, Chapter 286 and Rule 2.240 of the Rules of Judicial Administration.
The Clerk of the Circuit Court is the defender of the public trust. The Clerk provides "checks and balances" that protect the public trust. The Clerk is the custodian of all public records.
The Clerk has always been a Constitutional Office.
Clerks may only perform such duties as provided in the constitution, in statutes, or in rules of court. At present, there are at least 1,000 such designated duties.
