Social Media Guidelines for Posting
In an additional effort to serve the patrons of the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library (OBENPL), the OBENPL selects carefully chosen social media tools as an important enhancement to communication, collaboration, and information exchange between OBENPL staff, library users, and the general public. "Social Media" is referred to any web application, site, or account created, as well as maintained, by the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library staff. Commonly used Social Media sites include: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, YouTube, Pinterest, wikis, forums, and other content sharing sites. OBENPL Social Media accounts are intended for patrons and staff to communicate information and make opinions related to materials, library topics, and library happenings.
Comments and differences in opinions are respected, however, the OBENPL reserves the right to restrict or remove any content relating to any of the following:
- explicit, disrespectful, racist, or sexual content
- information that will compromise the safety or security of the people/library
- personal attacks/threats
- private or personal information published without consent
- commercials, advertisements, spam
- hyperlinks that are not related to discussions
- postings that are considered offensive, insulting, slanderous, or derogatory
