After being up since 5am with my dog Blue shaking his head every minute, crying, and scratching his ears till they bled, I called all the vets around my new home in Fremont HOPING someone would take my boy in.. no where could accommodate so I decided to try elsewhere and drive further. I was recommended ParkTown Vet from my old boss And decided to give them a call. Not only did they take him in on a short notice, and as a new patient… they went over pricing before hand and did not try to add any extra charges that were unnecessary which is common to have a huge bill in the end from most vets these days From the front staff to the doctor and the techs everyone was so nice!!!! I personally worked at a vet clinic for 3 years, and their prices were fair and not too pricey at all… seeing how I was an emergency appointment I honestly expected to take a huge hit. The doctor listened, was not pushy, and did not make me feel like they were out for my money. Everyone knows how that feels. Even tho Blue had to be sedated for his ear cleaning I requested since he’s difficult I felt he was in good caring hands. So thank you ParkTown Veterinary for such a smooth and fast appointment. Blues ears thank you!!!!!
Everyone is super polite and loves animals. Treats my dog with respect and listens to my concerns. I also love that I can text the vet tech for quick questions and they have an app for scheduling with a points reward system for discounts
Really terrible experience. We made an appointment a month ago to see Dr Thur based on a referral for her specifically. We made it very clear that we wanted her to be our pet's doctor and were fine waiting to see her. Fast forward to today, after we waited 45 minutes, the vet tech finally asks us to come in. Then she says we are seeing a different doctor. I explained that we had specifically set an appt for Dr Thur. She went out to check, comes back and explains to us that Dr Thur is unavailable because she has been in and out of emergency surgeries all day. I said I understand, but we want to see Dr Thur and would prefer to wait or reschedule if necessary. The vet tech then says she doesn't know how long it will be but we can "wait if we want to." Apparently she cannot provide an estimate of how long it might take, and her explanation for this is that Dr Thur is busy seeing two dogs together in another room, and "it's unpredictable with dogs." This made no sense. They literally schedule people all day by estimating how long visits will take... We were trying to reschedule this entire time because I understood if it was an emergency situation that should be prioritized, and frankly I'd like a vet to make that decision if it were my own dog having an emergency! But now the vet tech says it's not an active emergency, the doctor is just behind from emergencies earlier in the day, and currently busy in another room with the two dogs I'm pretty certain arrived after us. We had been waiting for almost an hour. Only one pair of dogs appeared during that time. But earlier she had said that the office couldn't have let us know they were behind while we were waiting since they only "just found out 15 minutes earlier." How did you just find out that someone has been in and out of emergency surgery all day? Again, it makes no sense. At this point I am extremely frustrated because the vet tech is talking over me, not listening and just generally being rude. I told her I was frustrated and felt like she was being unnecessarily hostile. That's when she told me that I was verbally abusing her ?!. I explained that was not my intention, that I was trying to be patient, but at this point I am very uncomfortable so we are leaving. It is pretty clear in hindsight what happened. They were busy and rather than take accountability for the inconvenience, they were extremely rude and defensive. I am actually a pretty patient person, but I also am not going to play games and get into unnecessary arguments over this -- my pup's health is the priority. But to this individual, politely and firmly standing up for yourself is apparently equivalent to verbal abuse. I have no idea if the vets are good or not, but if something went wrong with my baby, I would not want to be dealing with these people.
Unprofessional. Not worth the free exam from HSSV. First available appointment was 4 weeks out, fine. Every time you call, expect to be put on hold at least 15-30 min. Even though we were on time for our 8am appointment right when they open, it took 50 min to see a tech because “someone else must have checked you in”. We had to wait outside since the dog in the waiting room was dog reactive, apparently you have to stand in front of the desk to not be forgotten. We wanted the standard HW meds we were comfortable with, but felt the tech and the vet was pushy with the ones that have all sorts of complications. All that we could’ve probably lived with. Our dog received two optional vaccines. The following day, while playing ball, he fell flat on his face not a small tumble for an 80 lb dog. His right legs were giving out on him and his hind leg was extremely swollen. We called and waited 25 min to talk to the receptionist who said the vaccines were given on the left side. So we wanted to schedule something asap to get him check out. While waiting on hold again to schedule, the receptionist went to the tech who gave the vaccines and found out they were given on the right side the incorrect side for flu and lepto because of “how they had to hold him”. The swelling and pain went away after a week and we used a different animal hospital to do his boosters, and he was in much better condition. We submitted the internal review to the clinic about our substandard experience, with no response. We won’t be returning here.
I was given a quote of my 2yr old, dog, for her first visit. It was for 707.00 that's extremely ridiculous, and there supposed to be affordable. Not worth any stars not even 1. And your charity sign is erelevnt, you have nerve offer help, with a fake charity sign. I'm surprised you have not been reported to California bar association.
This review is based of my last interaction with Dr Nakagawa. I have been a client at parktown for the last 12 years. Today was my last day bringing my pet to this clinic. I brought my pet in for a flea exam and had some other concerns that I wanted Dr Goulart to examine. After Dr Goulart conducted the examination I walked away with a $680 bill for xrays, consultation's and eye examination, medications. Fast forward 3 days after my visit I notice the eye ointment that I used on my pet caused some sort of irritation in his left eye so I called back in to ask if it had something to do with the meds that were given. I was immediately given a drop off appointment for the next day to see Dr Nakagawa. This is where my experience was soured and severed with this clinic. I received a phone call from Dr Nakagawa saying didn't notice anything that I had mentioned with my pets eye she said it could be due to the adrenaline he was experience from being at the vet. She also suggested that I needed an additional eye test one that I already paid for from my last visit 3 days prior. I asked if there was a way that the charge for the test be comped since his eye was not this way prior to me applying the meds prescribed. The Dr then goes on this tangent about how she will be unable to pay her employees by me asking for a free test which was $33. She failed to display any empathy or care towards my pet. Her communication style comes off rude and condescending. She lacked professionalism, empathy, and most of all compassion. I picked up my pet was charged and additional $52 and that will be the last time I will be a client at parktown. If you want to continue service with Parktown I suggest requesting Dr Thur or Dr Amy Goulart.
I live in San Mateo now but I bring my cat here for her annual exams because of how much I like them. As a cat owner I especially appreciate that they have a separate cat and dog lobby so that the animals don't get stressed by each other
Parktown Vet cared for my sweet baby in her final moments as if she was their own. Their compassion and commitment to care helped me during the most difficult decision. The doctor along with all the staff were caring, kind, patient and honest. My senior baby got exceptional care. I wish I found this place soon. I will be switching vets for my other fur babies. Thank you so much to the staff for everything you did for me and my baby Waffle.
My 13 year old dog was having a medical emergency and was refused service by Parktown Veterinary when I called to let them know that I wanted to bring her in for apparent HGE. She is a patient of theirs. On a separate instance, I took my younger dog to get neutered. When I dropped him off, they asked me if I wanted them to administer his second rattlesnake vaccine while he was there. This sounds really considerate and helpful until you become aware that Parktown had already administered his first and second doses of the rattlesnake vaccine. I don’t know about everyone else, but I expect any medical professional, human-focused or otherwise, to maintain good records of services rendered. I certainly paid for two rattlesnake vaccines. I am changing vets. Between absurdly long wait times, missing medical documentation, refusal to see my senior pet in an emergency situation where they were still open for another hour and a half, I don’t see the point of giving them further opportunities to disappoint. I would rather spend extra time driving to get to a vet that is more organized and treats emergency issues as urgent. Edit: after I posted this review, the vet emailed to drop me as a client and copy/pasted this review into my dogs’ medical documentation before sending it to me, which is not relevant to their medical or surgical history. So if you’re going to warn others, make sure to get your records first.
June 23rd my dog woke up with an acute oral abscess. I called my regular vet who unfortunately was fully booked for the week. So, I called around and Parktown said they could get her in same day. We jumped at the opportunity and went in immediately. The initial estimate was $1100-1600, we ended up spending $2200+. Upon pick up they informed us they had left 4 teeth, her two lower canines, molar 309 and premolar 406. Then Nakagawa informed us that our beloved 7 year old dog had either cancer or was in severe renal failure. She jumped to this conclusion due to elevated calcium and SDMA. She also said our dog was positive for Erhlichia and anaplasmosis, two tick born illnesses in our indoor only bed bug. There was no mentioning of treating these tick borne illnessesalthough they lied in their notes and said otherwise. She then focused on we needed to get a specialist radiologist in to do a renal scan and additional labs, another couple grand$$$ in further workup. We opted to take her home and reached out to our regular vet. They recommended we treat the tick borne illnesses immediately, as that would be the most logical next step. I called Parktown and requested doxycycline and was given the run around. After I hung up with them I was frustrated in the quality of their service and care, so I reached out to my regular vet who had us come in. He prescribed the doxycycline and informed us she had 4 and a HALF teeth, apparently they left our girl a rotten parting gift that was already abscessing - mind you they charged us for this extraction. We returned to our regular vet for repeat labwork 2 weeks post doxycycline and magically she is perfectly fine. No cancer, no renal failure, no tick borne illness, she's a healthy 7 year old. According to my vet there must have been a mix up in their lab, which I don't doubt. Tick born illness doesn't disappear, your pet will test positive for a very long time after exposurelike Lyme's disease yet they're saying "it could happen." So, apparently I'm to believe that doxycycline cures cancer, renal disease and eradicates tick borne illnesses? Justifiably frustrated, I called and requested Nakagawa call me back. She did and told me she'd have management call me back when I stated that I wanted a refund on the bloodwork$300 panel. Amy called me back days later and said a refund on the messed up bloodwork wasn't warranted. Honestly, save yourself the senseless heartache, money, frustration and sub-par veterinary care/skills, skip this place, they'll uncharge you and leave your beloved fur baby in pain. **Definitely followed someone else's advice from a review left not too long ago and made sure to get all medical records before posting a review, since they like to attach reviews to them even though they're in no way relevant to a patient's medical history. How unbelievabley unprofessional!
