Description

We at Parrot Island have designed this page as a fun place to share information, photos, and products pertaining to companion parrots.

At Parrot Island, our primary concern is for the well being of your bird. When we opened back in September of 1988 we were a small neighborhood store, affiliated with Kenwood Veterinary Clinic. Our business philosophy was to create a specialty shop that would offer the best knowledge, products, and services available for you and your companion parrot. We hoped to build a clientele primarily through the referral of veterinarians and satisfied customers. We have always felt that working with birds places a responsibility on us to do the best job we can and to encourage the same in our customers. Our intent has always been to provide our customers with the most updated knowledge and benefit of our experience. We have never tried to be a high volume sales store, but to do the best job we know how. This is no more satisfying part of our job than knowing that we have given someone advice and information that allowed them to better understand and care for their parrot.

If you, or your loved one, are thinking about adding or have a bird to your family…please call or talk to the owner of this store before you do! NOTE: THIS PLACE DOES NOT SELL BIRDS I drive 40 minutes to buy my birds’ food from this store, instead of driving 5 minutes to my local pet store. Why?? I decided that I wanted two budgies a couple of years ago, and I researched what I needed to buy. I noticed that most of the stores I would visit had a tiny selection of items to choose from for my birds. I googled “bird store”, and Parrot Island appeared. I decided to drive down, and I am thankful that a place like this exists. The store owners are exceptional human beings that have a passion for birds and educating the population about the specific needs for your bird that will keep them happy and healthy. I was thinking about purchasing a light for my bird, and he told me that they don’t need it! I have purchased a cage, trees big and small, perches, toys LOTS OF TOYS!!, food, dishes, etc. from here. This place ensures that you’re getting quality/bird safe products, and their place is clean and well organized. I didn’t realize the amount of money, but most importantly, the amount of quality bonding time I would need to spend with my birds each day. It is worth every penny and minute. You can be creative and make your own toys, and everything is reasonably priced. I want to give my birds the best lives that I can. The owners are happy to answer any questions that I may have. Building a bond with your bird is rewarding. They are intelligent animals, and it has been fun to watch each one of their personalities shine I have 5 budgies now. This place provides more than bird products..it is a place owned by honest, passionate, and hardworking owners that share their love and knowledge of bird care. That’s why I keep coming back to support them.
The owner is very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable! My favorite part was the supplies for making your own bird toys. I'm quite picky about what my bird toys are made of no cotton or plastic, so it was great to be able to choose materials and make them myself. I had fun making Pickle his own bird toy, and he went to work right away on destroying it. It was definitely worth the drive from Mankato and I will be coming again when I have the chance!
The place was pristine, my only guess is that is because no one shops there. My husband and I drove half an hour to look for a more reliable source for high quality seed mix for our birds. No one but us were in the store. My ten-year-old disabled daughter was very interested in the acrylic foraging toys and showing me ones she thought our parrots would like. We have birds, we buy high quality toys for them and know the acrylic ones are fragile and expensive. I'm sorry I was allowing her to explore and was quite prepared to purchase if something were to have broken. If they were concerned otherwise, there is a polite way to ask my child not handle the toys. Instead she was told not to play with them and I was reminded that the toys were expensive, that he's a small business and would lose money, that he's "not Target". My husband and I have never been so insulted. We politely collected our daughter and left. I didn't even have a chance to see the entire store that we WERE prepared to spend money at. We will certainly not be stepping in that store ever again.
Parrot Island is the only place I go for supplies for our Green Cheek Conure, Yoshi. I try to hit all the sales and have gotten some really good deals. I love that they offer already assembled toys, but also supplies to make your own bird toys. A very well rounded inventory. Everything from the upgraded cage, to toys and treats and the new climbing net, we’ve never been disappointed. More than all of that, though, is the personal attention and education I’ve received. Terry is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic to share what he knows. I always plan to spend at least an hour so I can pick his brain while shopping if it’s not too busy. My husband and I are grateful to have this place near where we live in the Twin Cities, but honestly, I’d drive two hours if I had to. The education alone is worth the time.
If you have or are contemplating getting a bird that will outlive you. Stop in and check these out it's definitely worth your time. The prices are pretty reasonable. The owner is extremely knowledgeable about all different species of birds and is a genuinely nice person!
I Parrot Island! It is a little far from me but I don't care! I enjoyed talking to Terry and Shari Beaudoin who are so very friendly and kind. I could have stayed, talked and been educated all day if my daughter didn't have an appointment the day I visited. I grew up with Parakeets but that was many moons ago when I was very young and I have my first female Vosmaeri Eclectus who's name is at fifty years old. The majority of the pictures are of me and my children with but with will see the GORGEOUS carrier I bought from Parrot Island. Sturdy, Beautiful and will last a lifetime!!
Truly a parrot paradise. So many toys and a huge variety of foods. Owner is lovely and knowledgeable. A must stop if you're anywhere near!
Best place to buy food, toys, cages, and other accessories for birds, not just in Minnesota but nationally. I cannot recommend Parrot Island enough, and make sure to tell all of my friends with feathered friends to shop here.
Amazing selection and variety of bird toys for both large and small birds! Was super impressed with both the selection and the owners knowledge!
It’s a great place to get supplies for your birds. The gentleman there seems very knowledgeable and is eager to share. The prices are a little more expensive then what you’d find online but being a small local store it’s to be expected. They do have a great selection and variety of bird toys, perches, food, etc. Would recommend checking them out - Just make sure to leave your feathered friends at home.
