Patterson State Park

Description

Patterson State Park is a Pennsylvania state park on in Summit Township, Potter County, Pennsylvania in the United States. The park is on Pennsylvania Route 44 near Sweden Valley. The park has two rustic roadside pavilions.HistoryThe Pennsylvania Department of Forestry created "Patterson Picnic Area" from 1922 to 1925. During the Great Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corps built two pavilions in the current picnic area from 1935 to 1941. Patterson State Park officially became part of the Pennsylvania State Parks system in 1950. The name is thought to come from people who lived in the area named Patterson, but there are no records of anyone named Patterson owning the land that is now part of the state park. In 2000 the park became part of the Hills Creek State Park complex, an administrative grouping of eight state parks in Potter and Tioga counties.RecreationPatterson State Park is surrounded by Susquehannock State Forest. Visitors use the park as a trail head for hiking, cross-country skiing, mountain biking, and snowmobiling. The Susquehannock Trail System, an 85mi loop almost entirely on state forest land, passes through the park. A mountain bike trail begins at Denton Hill State Park and runs as it passes through Patterson State Park on its way to Cherry Springs State Park. Overnight camping in tents is permitted at the park.

A very nice, little roadside picnicking and camping state park located in the PA Wilds. Patterson State Park is located on ten acres and consists of 2 pavilions, a vaulted toilet, and several tent only campsites. The Susquehannock Trail System passes directly through the park. This park is located on PA route 44 so there is road noise but traffic is fairly light. Patterson State Park is also only a few miles north of Cherry Springs State Park and could be used as an alternative if there are no campsites available there.
A pull off state park with camping? I suspect it's to help out on clear sky nights when the nearby Cherry Springs is fully booked. Otherwise, this park has two picnic huts, and a trail suitable for mt biking to Charry Springs State Park. A creek nearby is a feature of this pocket park. Nice camping site. Not much to see there, but it a nice place to picnic and just disconnect from the tech for a little.
First Come, first served style honor system campground. There are envelopes and a list of fees. A ranger does come through generally daily to check and make sure everything is above board and no one is wrecking the place. Dogs are allowed as long as they are on a leash. unlike cherry springs Its bare bones there is a rustic toilet and one water source centrally located for everyone to use. The sky is almost as clear as at cherry springs with maybe a little light pollution from coudersport or sweden valley in the north. You can definitely see the entire milky way though. Trailhead for part of the susquehannock trail is right there too if you want to hike. If you do be advised there are no sweeping vistas and it is level until it goes down the mountain eventually to a stream. Very nice hike regardless. Definitely recommend this place if you have a dog and still want to see the milky way.
Easy roadside campsites. First-come, first-serve and about $35 per night.
Beautiful there. Love the outdoors and enjoyed the time spent there.
Nice easy walk. Also very short trail.
We actually just pulled in here while on a motorcycle ride to take a break and have some water. This is actually a small camping area with grills, pavilions one has a fireplace and a hand pump to draw water. Camping rates are posted and envelopes provided for honor system payment. Pretty cool!
Every PA State Park is awesome... even Patterson lol
