PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center University District

Description

PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center University District is a hospital in Eugene, Oregon, United States. Originally called Sacred Heart Medical Center, its new name reflects its location near the University of Oregon and Northwest Christian University. It is one of two Sacred Heart facilities in the Eugene-Springfield area owned by PeaceHealth. The other facility, Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, is in Springfield.Sacred Heart in Eugene had been the largest hospital in the area until the newer facility at RiverBend opened in August 2008. Most general services moved to the larger hospital. This facility became a specialty services hospital but retains an emergency department. Other services that are still located here include the Oregon Rehabilitation Center, Behavioral Health Services, and the Gamma Knife Center.HistorySacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene began as Pacific Christian Hospital, which was founded by Eugene Bible University, now Northwest Christian University and dedicated on March 16, 1924. The building was six stories tall and cost about $225,000. A School for Nurses was a part of the University and associated with the hospital. By the 1930s, it was in bad shape structurally and financially. At the same time, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Newark, which later became Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, had a good reputation in the Pacific Northwest in hospital administration. Due to this reputation, local physicians went to them for help in saving the hospital. In 1936, the Sisters of St. Joseph bought it for $50,000 and changed its name to Sacred Heart General Hospital.

I’ve been seeing my primary doctor there for 9 years. I’ve always been treated well. Currently I’m doing physical therapy there each week. I could not ask for more professional care. I love that their system is so connected. I had a heart attack four years ago, and every department that I dealt with at Hilyard during my recovery had access to my records. Four months ago I had major surgery on my neck at River Bend. They replaced two discs in my neck, and fused two vertebrae. The recovery takes a lot of follow up, much of it at the Hilyard location. In other words, I know their system is huge, and sometimes they have been overwhelmed with Covid and difficulty hiring help, but for 30 years they have provided excellent care for my family. My primary doctor is at Hilyard and I would not trade her for the world. I’m sure if you go in there with expectations of perfection, or if you’re rude or demanding, you’ll ruffle some feathers. If you have reasonable expectations and you treat them decently you will have a much better experience. The folks at Hilyard have been very helpful. They do care. I know, because they helped save my life, and I’ve spent time there recovering. I trust them with my life.
Very timely, helpful, thorough, I observed the folks there meet the needs of an old disabled man that had not brought enough oxygen and ran out and obtained an extra supply which really not their responsibility. The staff went the extra mile for me. I didn’t really wait except to get announced. Seem amazing at listening in this clinic which is what I need to be heard. I have never wanted the jab and they gave me their opinion but they heard mine and that was the end of it. I guess what I am saying is I am treated like an individual

Went in to see if I could get emergency meds as I had moved from out of state and hadn't yet set up a pcp. Sat for 3 hours just to get told by a very rude nurse that they don't fill prescriptions. So all that for nothing when they could've told me at the desk they don't fill scripts and still want to charge me over $700 for literally wasting my time.
When ever I've had an emergency this place was great. But when I went here for mental health for years I was misdiagnosed and given the wrong treatment. When I was a minor I was prescribed many different medicines several of which were extremely unnecessary and known to be addictive or be misused. This caused so many issues and I had no clue for years that many of the medications should not have been given to children.
I just went in for a lower left abdominal pain and a few other symptoms The staff 2 checking patients in had one person, who would not give me their name, who was very rude, dismissive and pushy. Also the security guard was bullying a patient. I think maybe your staff made an assumption about me, and it looks from the snapshot few moments I saw that things of that nature might happen frequently. I understand that this particular hospital may see more than average traffic of people who are unhoused… But the response shouldn’t be to treat everyone with apathy.
I came here in quite a predicament. I didn't even mean to start crying but I couldn't even explain anything without breaking down. The doctor asked me what was going on. No judgement at all!! The Doctor left the room and later came in to get my number to talk to a social worker. They put all my needs first and my child's. I've never been blessed so much before. I stand by that this hospital is a very caring place!!
If I could give my experience 0 stars, I would. The week prior to my visit, I had congestion, a high temp for several days and a cough - the flu. I went in that night because my cough was so bad that I had trouble breathing and I couldn't swallow anything - even water. When checking in, the triage nurse said that it was just a cold and that I could stay if I wanted, but it would be 4-5 hours wait. After 2+ hours, I was desperate for sleep and just decided to leave. I had to check out with the same nurse and he said, "See. I knew you'd leave. They always do." The next day I saw a doctor and was told that I had bronchitis and that fluid was starting to develop in my lungs. The doctor also pointed out that my throat/tonsils were swollen and raw from coughing and that's why it felt like it was closing up. I was put on antibiotics. But even more importantly, they gave me a breathing treatment to open up my lungs right away and prescriptions for an inhaler and cough suppressant. Yeah. It wasn't just a cold. I'm so grateful for the ER nurse for making me feel stupid and like I was wasting their time by coming in. Now I know better than to go to PeaceHealth on Hillyard.
Went here at 12:30 pm to get some tests done for my stomach because I’ve had stomach pain, naseua and been throwing up for a couple years. I went in to get some tests done and before they even called me up to talk to me it was a few hours. After that it took a couple more hours just to get checked in and then still haven’t been admitted to a room and it’s 6:34 pm. They’ve called people with coughs just back but not a person in physical pain and trying not to throw up constantly. 0/10 recommend:.
I recently went into the ER, I told the ambulance workers I wasn't feeling safe at home and was having a panic attack from what had happened prior to them arriving, I thought I had been having a seizure because only 2 days earlier I was diagnosed with nonepileptic seizures at the OHSU, I was also diagnosed with depression as well. Once I got in the ambulance they told me they were taking me to a place for those who don't feel safe at home. Once I arrived the staff was very condescending to me and the men who had brought me there. I was set up in the Psych ward and told that I was going to be seen by a doctor, I'm 17 mind you, and a very rude lady with long hair told me she needed to watch me strip which felt extremely violating. I guess it's policy but I told them I wasn't feeling suicidal or wanting to harm others, some staff are very rude, unprofessional and unhelpful and some are really kind but still don't seem to know what they're doing. I was in there for 25 hours and I can tell you it's an absolute he'll hole, I had told them I would rather be home than be there and they just kept telling me the social worker from DHS was coming which took 23 hours. There is no brain stimulation and and it's traumatizing hearing the people in there screaming for help and to get out. All I could do was close my ears and cry. I was given my medication The first night and asked for it the second day because I was feeling suicidal at that point. I asked for my medication multiple times and it was never given to me, they said they would go ask and never gave it to me. I felt broken and hopeless when i got out of there, and they still sent me back home. They also said they were going to check if it was a seizure and never did. I wouldn't suggest going here even if it's just the ER
