Penn Treaty Park

Description

Penn Treaty Park is a small park on the western bank of the Delaware River, in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is located on Beach Street, near its intersection with Delaware Avenue. The land that is now the park was part of the Lenape village of Shackamaxon, where William Penn famously entered into a treaty of peace with Tamanend, a chief of the Lenape Turtle Clan in 1683.DescriptionThe southern part of the park consists of a walkway surrounding an open green favored by dog walkers and lunchtime picnickers. A stand of mature trees shades the northern part of the park. A statue of William Penn by sculptor Frank Gaylord stands near the northern entrance to the park.At the river's edge, the park provides an unimpeded view of the full span of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge that connects Philadelphia to the city of Camden, New Jersey. Directly to the north is a power-generating station owned and operated by the Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO). Bordering the southern edge of the park there was a nightclub with part of its facilities built on a reclaimed pier that stretches out into the river, however this is gone and will soon become a condominium development. An iron and concrete fishing pier used to extend out into the river, but it was seriously damaged by an out-of-control barge, fenced off for a while and then eventually done away with.

I really like this park. It’s full of edible and medicinal wild plants that I can talk about during foraging walks. It’s got the water full sun, shaded areas and a lawn. The only thing it doesn’t have a toilet, which would be incredibly useful to those of us who hydrate thoroughly, but then require an outlet.
Baby dog loves to run and play. She also enjoys the slide.. Such a beautiful park.
Always a nice spot to soak in some sun and some scenery. It's usually packed, but friendly people. 10/10 picnic spot. Always clean. If you're visiting Philly, it's worth a stop if you want a nice full view of the Ben Franklin bridge.
AyA Smooth Jazz was playing that day and was awesome, everyone needs to see this band. The backdrop of the Ben Franklin bridge and the sail boats going by. The playgrounds for the children and the bike run or you can walk the track. It's just gorgeous there. But, there are no restrooms. Dog-friendliness: It's dog friendly but there was to many dogs and the owners didn't pick up behind them.
It's a cute little park with benches and a jungle gym...right on the Delaware river too...good fishing there too as well
I truly enjoy this park I took our wedding pictures here back in 2010 & it's a place we visit frequently we walk our dog there's an area for our children to play just wish they had restrooms but can't complain my children like it & it's pretty clean. Dog-friendliness: Many people walk there dogs & for the most part everyone has been friendly about it
Nice little urban park. I haven't been here in about 7 years and it seems like they have added a nice riverside multi-purpose trail. There are abandoned buildings in sight but also new apartment buildings and the Rivers casino. Nice views of the Ben Franklin Bridge. The playground looked a little boring and could use a facelift. I went during winter so the grass wasn't too green and lush and the trees were bare. I can only image it looks much better in Spring/Summer. My only complaint was the very limited parking. I parked in what may or may not have been a legal parking spot.
I enjoy coming here. Needs to be cleaned more often & less weed in the air near the playground. Playground: Nice play area for children when it's not overcrowded.
Came all the way from Drexel Hill to visit with my wife and son. Smaller than I thought. But very good location by the water and fairly clean. There is no restroom. Requesting authority to consider one to build. Enjoyed!!
Nice little community Park near the Delaware River with a volley ball court.
