Perry High School (Gilbert, Arizona)

Description

Perry High School is a public high school located in Gilbert, Arizona and is one of the recent CUSD high schools founded in 2007. The school's design was based on the layout of Basha High School, another school in the Chandler Unified School District, with an additional "F" building built exclusively for CTE classes in the same place as the "H" building in Basha High School.County LibraryWhen Hamilton High School and Basha High School were built, the city of Chandler incorporated branch libraries into those sites. Perry is within Gilbert town limits, and so the Chandler Unified School District worked to incorporate a Maricopa County Library District branch into the site. The Perry Branch Library opened in June 2007. It was the first public library located in a high school in Gilbert and the first public library in the nation to drop the Dewey Decimal System, opting instead for a bookstore-like system that places non-fiction books into categories based on subject. This change brought national attention to the library and provoked debate about the effectiveness of the Dewey Decimal System. The library also has arts and crafts projects on a regular basis. The county library is the second to be integrated inside a high school: Boulder Creek High School in Anthem features a Maricopa County regional library.Fine Arts DepartmentPerry has a fine arts department headed by department chair Sharon Biemond. Biemond is the teacher of all sculpture classes. In the 2008-2009 school year as well as the 2009-2010 school year Perry's sculpture students competed with those at Basha High School in a loose competition called "Pumas on Parade" ("Bear Brigade" at Basha)where students construct "life sized" paper-mâché representations of their mascots and decorate them to fit a chosen theme. The rules have been rudimentary for both seasons in that the school who makes the "best looking" sculptures wins. At the end of the assignment the teachers from both schools exchange emails containing photos of all entries.

I have been more than pleased with my experience at Perry so far, as a sophomore and an honors student, i have hound that the teachers are engaging, helpful and typically know their subjects very well. The counselors have been ready to help out when ever Ive needed it and in general, the front office is amazing. I'm not terribly involved, only being in a few clubs and marching band, but the groups Ive seen are amazing at what they do, whether its a sport or chess or playing an instrument, there are many talented and friendly people that attend. As for the security guards, i don't know what to think; Ive heard bad things and good things and it seems like they get a lot of pressure to quickly stop and prevent trouble when it does occur. From what i can tell, Perry seems like a very well off school in terms of teachers, location, lack of trouble, and student body.
This is my 2nd year at Perry, and I feel it is an awful school. My first year I had a teacher who never taught, he actually let us be on our phones the entire class, and would not provide opportunities to learn more in the end he actually had to curve all our grades by 15% to make sure the grades weren't to bad. I'm not the only kid with these stories, however, many of my friends, and those I have recently met report having multiple teachers who don't do their job, and must curve grades to keep from making the school suspicious about their abilities. The entire school including administration force honors, and AP classes on students. Things like this have caused issues for every kid I know both mentally and socially. Perry is a high school, that is similar to others but it is still not a good school.
I am a senior at perry high school and having experience with three different high schools I'd have to say that perry is by for the worst I have seen. Between schools security guards who overstep there boundaries, terrible teachers, and a poor functioning faculty. I see no positive things to say about this high school. The security guards are by far one of the worst things about this school, as far as I can tell they have no real purpose at the school besides telling students wether or not they are dressed appropriately and where they can and cannot park at places off of school campuses. Another problem at this school is teachers, I've only dealt with 6 teachers directly since I have only gone there for one year. Of those 6 teachers, one was good and that was my art teacher, 2 were incompetent at best, and half of them were, for various reasons, not suited to teach. Problems with the teachers include taking of personal property without a warning, treating students as if they were children and not adults, which most of whom are, and assigning long and pointless projects which carry a significant amount of weight to the final grade. A significant problem with this school is the office faculty, they seem to care the least when a student's best interest is involved and the most when it comes to being controlling over the student for no peticular reason. They involve parents when they are not needed to be involved, which creates a lot of unnecessary stress, because they are not able to resolve issues on their own. I have left a one star review for this school but if it was possible I would have given it none, please do not send your children here or to any other high school in this district if possible.
This school caters to the families that have money. I was informed buy my son that if he can't print certain papers at home then he will get zeros on those assignments because this school will not print papers for students. Not everyone can afford all the things that teachers think they should have at home.
We have loved our experience so far at Perry. My kids have participated in track, football, basketball, volleyball, dual enrollment classes, honors classes, clubs, even dodgeball!
I had the pleasure of graduating from here. It’s a great school and I had many years of quality education that I felt prepared me for college and a future job market and still had the chance for a great high school experience. Loved it
This school sucks the teachers mess up on your grades even though you do the assignments. I don’t recommend going to this school what so ever. if I could give it no stars I would.
theodd1sout comic went to this high school, so I guess that's pretty neat.
I don't like the brakes I want it like Glendale schools
I just want to give a good review to a good school
