Peterborough Police Association
The main function of the Peterborough Police Association is to support the mission of the Peterborough Police Department. The mission for our Department is not only to serve the citizens of Peterborough; it is also to provide other law enforcement agencies the means to improve their ability to increase the quality of life throughout the State of New Hampshire.
Criminal activity does not stop at town borders or state lines. The Peterborough Police Department has taken a proactive approach to reducing illegal activity. Our agency belongs to several organizations: NW3C (National White Collar Crime Center), New Hampshire ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force), NESPIN (New England State Police Information Network) and the Monadnock Regional Strategic Response Team (SRT). In addition to being involved with large organizations we are also one of the few Police Departments in our area that are staffed twenty-four hours a day. We often provide manpower, equipment and use of our facility to other law enforcement agencies. We believe in a multi-jurisdictional approach to solving problems.
The mission of the Peterborough Police Association includes support for the Peterborough Police Department’s Cyber Crime Unit. The unit was formed out of the need to protect our young people from exploitation on the internet. Our Cyber Unit is an Affiliate member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. Being a member of the ICAC allows our agency to take an active part in preventing, investigating and prosecuting predators who seek to engage in sexual activity with minors. The ICAC Task Force proactively pursues offenders involved in this type of criminal exploitation. Peterborough Police Department Cyber Safety Program has a three pronged approach to prevent Child exploitation:
1. Educate the public on the latest trends in internet safety, regarding internet safety for children.
2. Dedicate several officers to ICAC training and have them become proficient in the latest investigative techniques.
3. Continue to be involved in the State of New Hampshire ICAC Task Force and actively investigate sexual predators in the Monadnock Region.
