The Piedmont Food & Agricultural Processing Center is a business incubator for food entrepreneurs & farmers in the Piedmont Region to add value to local farm products and create new local food businesses.
This business incubator is a joint project of Alamance, Chatham, Durham, and Orange Counties, with Orange County acting as the fiscal agent during the establishment phase. (Weaver Street Market and Whole Foods contributed to the cost of a 2007 Feasibility Study.)
A Steering Committee is been etablished with representation from each county, including a County Commissioner, County Manager or designee, County Extension Director, and a local farmer, for a total of 16 members. Once established viably operable, the processing center will transition to a 501(c)(3) or similar entity.
