I try to avoid leaving 1 star reviews due to poor service because I understand that a server could be having a bad night. However, I dined at this restaurant twice during my stay on the Delta King once for dinner and once for breakfast and both experiences were negative. I did try contacting the manager before leaving this review whom’s email address I got from reading review responses. After over a week with no response I proceeded leaving this review. The food was fantastic and it was a very generous breakfast that comes with a hotel stay. We were pleasantly surprised with that. The server for dinner was very nice but not attentive at all. I sat with an empty water glass most of our stay and it was only when she checked in halfway through the meal and I asked for her to refill my water that she did. I also ordered a martini before our appetizer arrived and by the time we had finished our appetizer AND our dinner she came over to apologize for the wait on the martini and I told her we’d finished our food and we ready for the check- please cancel the martini. Definitely not a stellar experience. Then breakfast the next morning was much worse. The server made us feel as though she was irritated to be serving us. She had blonde hair and one or two facial piercings. She was extremely rude and inattentive. She didn’t greet us or welcome us in. We walked in and she said “Two?” and then walked us to a table and walked away. She then came back in a few minutes to get our drink order. She didn’t refill our waters or coffees once but fortunately the bartender was making rounds and checking in on people. He was friendly and would have made our experience much more enjoyable. The kicker is that at the end of the meal we were just sitting with our dirty plates waiting for her to come over. She never did. I had to wave her over. She literally rolled her eyes when she saw me. I asked if I owed anything for the orange juice I had ordered. She said breakfast is free but you still have to pay gratuity. Which made me feel as though she thought we were not intending to tip… We always tip. When service is at least decent we tip 20%+. I only had a $20 bill so I asked her if she could make change for me. She made an aggravated expression and said “I’ll try” - very passive aggressive. I should have said never mind, you’re clearly inconvenienced by us choosing to dine here, we’ll not bother you to make change so we can tip you. When she brought the change all she said was “I couldn’t give you any ones”. She didn’t say “Thanks for coming in” or “Have a nice day”. I get that people have a bad day but that was just ridiculous. I consider myself a reasonable person who came from a humble background. I was once a hospitality worker. I don’t have ridiculous standards of service and am very easy to please. If I’m upset with a dining experience, it means that it was pretty bad.
Good food! The mushroom dish from the appetizer menu is really good! Views are beautiful sitting outside. Free sea lion shows! Lol! Cocktail menu is amazing! Pretty presentation and delicious. Only thing that needs improvement is service efficiency. Took a long time for our cocktails to arrive. And then we had to flag our server down to ask for another drink. There was no check in to see how everything was or if we needed anything. They were not very busy either. But still like this place and recommend
I am shocked at how terrible this place has become! What happened? We were four people for lunch. The waitress never smiled once. She was too lazy to take 3 steps to pickup the menu from the table and told me to hand it to her. When the food arrived, my poor husband got a small white plate with one crab cake in it. He was shocked and asked if that was it for $20? Not even a leaf of lettuce! And for $24 the rest of us got full meals. When we finished, the waitress took the plates and delivered the bill. She did not ask if the meal was fine; would we like a dessert; or a coffee. Nothing. We asked to speak with the manager. Obviously the staff need some customer service training. We were told the manager was busy elsewhere and the receptionist apologized. And they comped us the crab cake. As we were leaving, the receptionist again apologized. No sight of the manager, except some young coward lurking to the side listening to what we said. That person must have been the manager. If he is too afraid to speak with customers, how will he ever take the reins and train his staff properly? It's not fair to his employees.
Visiting my cousin, who heard wonderful things about the Delta King. It was an interesting experience to dine on one of the last few steamboats that exists, but my dinner wasn't that great. The fish was tiny and overcooked, and the coulet was different. I didn't finish it and just blamed it on being full from a late lunch/snack. My cousin had the pork chop and said that it was delish. Service was okay.
My fish was overcooked, and my rice was undercooked . The bar was so slow. The server was awesome.Food: 1/5
I got breakfast here because I stayed at the Delta King needs another review for that…. The included breakfast was yogurt, blueberries, watermelon and 2 slices of blueberry loaf. That was actually really yummy. I should’ve stopped there…. But I really wanted something hot too. So I ordered the breakfast burrito with salsa and guc. Well… the plate showed with no salsa and guc. The server tried and asked the kitchen what was going on. No salsa available and they whipped up some guc on the spot. The burrito and potatoes had no taste. The guc had flavor so when I ate it with the burrito, all i tasted was the guc. Disappointing… but my fault should’ve stopped at the continental plate. End on a positive note: the river view was really pretty and the old time-y decor was cute.
SERVED RAW PORK. The food was incredibly disappointing. Was incredibly disappointed when upon arrival a raw pork chop an undercooked cold potatos and carrots were served. I had gotten a replacement option which was the case and pasta which still was disappointing because it truly wasn't worth the price. The tales on the prawns were left on and the sausage use was cheap. So it was incredibly overpriced. While the staff was incredibly nice and helpful. The wait times were quite bad for an unpacked restaurant. And I don't think our server understood how raw pork is extremely dangerous. But they were still incredibly nice. The view and the interior on the boat is absolutely amazing which didn't make the experience awful and it was enjoyable to walk around. But for the price and extremely subpar food you can definitely get a better meal elsewhere.
"Valentine Day" I will start by saying thank you a million Ms. Krystal for everything you have done that day for me... Ms. Krystal is one of the managers if not the manager to this awesome place and she didn't miss a beat with making sure my visit was to remember Met with me earlier in the day to grab my special gift for my fiancé so it can be presented by my waitress come dessert time which worked out perfect might I add BUT she also showed me the table we'd be sitting at which was an amazing view overlooking the Sacramento River where she can see the Sacramento Bridge from her seat which was at night so it lit up making it even more memorable to the eye's. The food was great even thow my Filet Mignon was over cooked I asked for medium well done... it was well well done an dry but I didn't complain because I wanted the night to be perfect and it still was... other then that the food was EXCELLENT ! My waitress was also excellent as well and couldn't of asked for a better server she went above an beyond to make our night that much more special so to the waitress that served us you to deserve a as well . I did my homework on this place and I will say from experience that reading reviews doesn't always cut it you need to go experience it for yourself because if I go off of reviews I would have missed out on this awesome opportunity to experience this historic restaurant because you can't make everyone happy and some people are just miserable within themselves BUT I'll say I went with my gut and oh BOY was this an experience to remember now I halfta think of something to be able to top this off for next Valentine Day. Thank you Ms. Krystal and the whole Pilot House staff for doing your thing and for sure I'm sure I'll be back .
High cost meal failed to meet overall expectations. dining experience was reduced by poor, slow service. the food, Ribeye steak and Cajun linguini were delicious. they were also kind of pricey. the shrimp cocktail appetizer was nice too. the staff, although they we nice enough, weren't very attentive, even though the place wasn't busy at all. we were left waiting way too long. After the meal we agreed to a dessert of lava cake. It took so very long we gave up and walked in and cancelled and just wanted the check to leave. the manager didn't seem to pleased and didn't even look me in the eye. if you choose to go there, make sure you get seated indoors, its much nicer. the outside seating was basic at best with basically lawn chairs at a small wobbly table. the experience just failed to make us feel like we made the right decision to go there. perhaps it was just an off day.
Pros: lovely decor, friendly staff, delicious food Cons: packed like sardines, accuracy of orders 75%, booth arrangement not ideal for large parties I had arranged our reservation with the lovely Rachel and was told our group would be seated in two tables or shaped in a T. Instead, we were given a long table beside a booth seat. It sat 8 people on that side of the table, but we were all cramped. Because it was a busy evening in and out of the restaurant, bathrooms were unkempt. Wait staff had a lot of orders to remember but forgot two steak dinners, mixed up a side dish, and forgot to bring more bread. Overall, the company and the food made this dinner enjoyable and would come back... But make sure it's for four people or less. Parking: Because there was two events occurring at that time, parking was full both in the street and in both parking garages. It easily took 45 min to an hour to find a parking spot.
