As my mother and I were entering through the Evergreen Ave entrance, a man stopped us and suggested the trail two streets over on Watkins would be an easy-moderate trail that would take us to the Vista trail which overlooks Rutland. When we pulled up at the Watkins entrance to Pine Hill, a very kind woman that takes care of these trails and woods for the state, stopped us to hand over a trail map. She was very kind and everyone we ran into on the trail was kind as well. Now this is primarily a mountain biking trail, so it is important to keep your dog close by on a leash and yield to all cyclist which was very easy to do. We had about 14 cyclist pass us on our hike and it was easy to move to the side to let them through. There was a ton of gypsy moths flying everywhere, they have all hatched and were flying about trying to mate. As destructive as that species is, it was beautiful to see, though they did eat many of the leaves. Pond Road was lovely and wide, we took trails: Watkins to Pond to Vista and back. Took about 45 minutes or so with a break at the Vista for water and pictures of the view. All trails are very well and clearly marked! THANK YOU !! Highly recommend!
Awesome mountain biking. Miles and miles of trails with all different skill levels. Personally been on every trail hiking and biking but it took two years. 6 stars Dog-friendliness: Dogs are welcome but please keep on leash. I love dogs but some people don't. And please clean up after your dog on trails and field. Picnic area: Think they have one or two picnic tables Benches at least but yes had picnic myself last week.
Have loved this place for 40 plus years. The hiking trails are amazing and it's always clean and a very soothing place to just get away and think
Nice area with a good amount of biking trails!
Trail was clean. Mushrooms everywhere please don't eat the mushrooms, unless you know for sure they are safe. There were little activities throughout the trail and it was a really easy hike. Loved this place.
Love all the trails nicely marked and many to choose from Dog-friendliness: The dogs really enjoy all the trails
Yes you can take your dogs. You should also use the restroom before you head down the trail. Maps are available at the entryway that are paper. And if the route gets too hard or you need to go back you can cut back over and go back. The trails are pretty shady so you don't need to worry about getting a sunburn. There were some bugs so I would wear bug spray and maybe some eye protection because the flies will navigate to your eyes. Overall a nice good 45 minute hike.
What a great place to MTB ride. I'm from out of town and was brought here by a friend and I Loved It! Definitely need to have a full suspension MTB though. My Hardtail just didn't cut the mustard, but fun none the less. Great well groomed trails. Compliments to the trail association - Pine Hill Partnership.
Amazing trails, walking and hiking! So peaceful. You can spend the day here and still not hit every trail. On the water as well makes it for a great experience. Don't miss this hidden gem in Rutland, Vermont.
