Desserts were yummy and food presentation was great. Aside from that, I don't really have any other positive review. My wife and I came here for our anniversary. We made reservations online and got seated promptly. It will be about 10 minutes before our server gets to us though. A manager poured us some water while we waited. Now, here's the fun part. The pork loin appetizer was very tough. This is the first time we went to a "fine dining" that sold very tough pork. It was a chore to just eat the small dish. The ossetra caviar, such an expensive ingredient barely shined and drowned in the grease of the potato mille feiulle. The ribeye at $57, ordered medium-rare, was incredibly stringy. What does that tell us? That the cut is cheap and very poor and the restaurant is ripping off its customers. Paella was underwhelming. I get the "modern" twist on it but it was honestly bland. It seemed like the rice was only cooked with saffron water and nothing else. The seafood wasn't cooked with the rice so there was no other flavor unlike a regular paella. Dessert was the best part of the evening. We were very hesitant about it because of how underwhelming everything is but we decided to complete the night. Please hire a better chef! One with pride in his work!
We really wanted to like this place. The food was absolutely excellent. That aside, the loss of stars occurred from certain expectations: for a table of four where three people ordered the same entree, remembering who got what should be easy. Drink delivery times were very slow and we had to grab some of our silverware from another table. The waitress didn’t know the menu and even with making a reservation, instead of simply being nicely told that the table wasn’t yet ready and shown somewhere like the bar, we were told that the hostess couldn’t possibly predict when guests will leave their table and to just go wait in the lobby. Obvious about wait times but the absolute worst way to approach such a situation. Also, when you make a reservation and are up front that you have vegetarian guests, you should be told how the menu of a very few select items can or cannot be made to fit your needs. Again, food was good but the experience was made fun by our friends, not the restaurant. Two stars only for the food quality.
Excellent meal every time we visit! Tonight we were served by Luke who provided a wonderful experience. He was there when needed and was super attentive. The atmosphere is upscale with a simple elegance. The staff is very well trained which is a credit to management. The bar is staffed by talented mixologists and the chef turns out flawless and delicious small plates and entrees. The menu is concise but we’ll rounded with something for everyone. Our selections on this trip we’re the roasted beets, and the pork belly small plates, the miso & honey glazed chicken breast, and the aged ribeye entrees…. all unbelievably delicious and served as works of art. The desserts are some of the best you’ll find anywhere. The Cheesecake and Panna Cotta are our favorites. Book well in advance as this is a popular spot in Hanover. You’ll be happy that you did.
Everything was great, but... Unfortunately, service is slow, waitresses were not trained enough for fine dining, and honestly, the food is modest. So I would say, only 4 stars, almost close to 3+. However, this is the only restaurant in this place.
Had a great experience at the bar. Drinks & cheese/meat plate were great. Bar staff very nice. When seated it went downhill from there. I had the Wedge Salad & Bouillabaisse. The salad was presented nicely but was not good. The blue cheese dressing was tasteless. The lettuce was watery. 3 hunks of bacon were plopped on top of wedge...weird to cut up & eat. The Bouillabaisse was terrible. It was bland, unsalted, and just awful. It came with fish, shrimp, & octopus. I told the server I didn't care for octopus so they put squid instead. It was a solid tube of squid huge,.not cut up laying in the bowl when placed on the table. When I went to cut it and it was impossible to cut much less eat. It was like trying to eat a car tire. The shrimp were overcooked and large which I don't care for. The large piece of bread layer across the bowl was soggy with the water broth & not good eithet I contemplated on sending back but I just rarely do that and ultimately did not. I regret that. I picked out the fish & ate that and table bread. My husband said his food was good.
The service level and food quality are way down. On our last visit with half the tables empty we were told we would have to stand and wait 15 minutes with one of our party hardly able to walk. We were refused a table to sit and wait.We went elsewhere. Recent meals there reveal an uninspired menu that never changes. Food quality is down since the old chef quit. Management is non-existent. We had a friend who had a similar unpleasant experience where upon telling the waitress, after she inquired, how the food was indicated that it was a poor entree. The manager came over and basically said...."tough". I realize that this is owned by the College which is badly run as well, but it is a shame they can't try to do better.
My husband and I had a dinner tonight and we loved everything. Our server John was extremely professional and super knowledgeable and pleasant, made great suggestion to my husband for wine to compliment his short rib dinner and my halibut was really delicious. Dessert was super good too.We had a great night out and we will definitely come back for another dinner at the Pine restaurant.
Food was delicious! We stayed at the Hanover Inn on a recent trip to the area. We ate dinner at Pine one night and it was an excellent meal. The staff was so attentive. Highly recommend.
Sad to have to post a negative review, but we and family members have had memorably good meals many times at Pine over many years, including just a few months ago. The menu has significantly changed, apparently with a shift in kitchen leadership. The best dishes we ordered were just “meh.” Prices are very high relative to the standard of food or service. Given all the meals we’ve had here in the past it didn’t occur to me to check reviews, but if you sort by recency, you’ll see that we’re not alone in feeling that Pine has gone steeply and sadly downhill in the last few months.
We went for brunch on my birthday. I had visited this establishment many times in the past. We were treated very poorly by the hostess, plenty of seats but was turned away because of short staff we will never go back. . Sorry I wasn't in a suit or dressed in Dartmouth apparel.
