Since 1934 Lamar's Plaza Theater has been the crown jewel in Barton County. Attracting people from as far away as Kansas City. The Plaza played first run movies until fire damage caused it to close down in 1986. It reopened again 1998.
Established in 1908 the Plaza started as the Bijou on the north side of the Lamar Square. The Bijou moved to the SW corner of the Square after a fire destroyed their building. In 1918 they again moved, this time to the NE corner of the Square. In 1928 the Bijou was sold and the name was changed to the Plaza. In 1934 they moved for the last time, to a new, state of the art building on the south side of the Square. See LamarMovies.com for more of the story as well as photos.
