Ponstein's Food Store

Update: I actually come to this store a lot. Since 2008. That was the first time i had experienced that at this store. I have not had a problem with Danielle since that day. I've never had a problem with either of the other ladies. I think they are really sweet and have amazing customer service. They are the reason I'm changing my review. Racist. I was just in the store in a line full of white men. Everyone was ordering tobacco and lottery. When i got to the register and tried to get a pack of cigarettes I was told I needed ID. I went back to the car to get my license. When I asked the cashier why I was the only one that had to show ID, she said that it was because she didn't know me. She began to go back and forth with me about how she didn't want to risk her license. When i asked her to stop and just serve me she said No. I walked over to the next register and the cashier sold me cigarettes without asking for ID. When i asked for the cashier's name that refused to serve me, she said that she was staying out of it. Then i heard the cashier yell, "my name is Danielle." Danielle obviously needs more training on customer service. ID everyone, not just people you don't know.

Great staff, reasonable prices, and good selection of alcohol. They have quick bites to eat, but there's a subway right next door as well.

Best convenient store in the parish everyone is very friendly and knows all the customers. They make you feel welcome and at home. All good people including the owner. Also try the subway next door real clean and not shy with the meat on your sandwich.

The best place to stop for everything I need! More beer, comes by the keg. Cigs are so well priced I can't help but stop before every shift. So many snacks to fill every munchie I have ever had! I won't shop anywhere else unless it's after hours and I'm mega desperate. Best crew in St. Bernard Parish!

Excellent selection of snacks, but the jambalaya was bad - tasted spoiled. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise. I was disappointed though it was going to be my lunch. I also got a sandwichman sandwich - it tasted funny. Strong vinegar smell on a shrimp n crab salad sandwich.

customer service is not good! The cashier will stop attending to the customer and will start having personal conversations with other employees. They will do this and it doesn't matter how many customers are in line.

Been looking all over Uptown, Downtown, Metairie and Kenner for this and its out of stock everywhere. I pasted Ponstein's up to go look in other stores i usually go to in Chalmette, but on my way home i decided to stop and to my surprise they had just what i was looking for!

It's a nice clean place. The workers are friendly and can help you with anything that you need. You can get just about anything you need.
