I’ve worked in healthcare for the past 16 years and never have I seen or experienced a place as neglectful as this one. My 63-year-old mother was transferred to Portland health and rehab after a post operative infection. The first day there she called me multiple times saying they wouldn’t answer her call light, She was in pain, She had to change her self multiple times. My mother had spent six weeks in a different skilled facility prior to this and never once did she make any complaints like this. At 1 AM she called me sobbing, She was in so much pain and nobody would help her. I called the nurse who informed me that they had called for an ambulance, but they were unable to come. I drove from The Dalles to get my mom to a hospital where they could treated her pain before an ambulance could get to her. I can’t help but wonder if they really made the call. Her surgeon tried calling Portland health and rehab to address her pain management, but she was unable to get through to talk to anyone. After returning to the facility from our long emergency room visit, I took my mother back to her room, turned on her call light and sat there for 45 minutes before it was acknowledged. Meanwhile It was heart wrenching hearing people crying out for help. Needless to say, I took my mother out of that place right away. Neglectful is to say the least this place should be shut down!!
There are individual people who are exemplary, however they are let down by a larger organization that seems at best disorganized or incompetent. Very few of the day to day people you will meet will actually work for EmpRes and it shows. The contractors never take ownership, and you can push the call button at night and wait 30+ minutes for a reply. The facility is noisy during the day which isn't the most restful environment. TVs blare all hours of the day, a few of the longer term residents make disturbing noises at high vocal volume and pitch, and the seemly constant parade of loud wheeled carts and bins will really get on your nerves fast. But the toilet facilities. I swear the whole month I was in there the bathroom was cleaned maybe once, and far from thoroughly. It reeked of urine, and I had difficulty using it with the overwhelming smell. 4 or 5 people to one restroom seems very problematic even if you are attentive and the "users" make an effort. But with disabled and sick people you can't expect the best of them to keep a bathroom clean. Staffing issue here? Oh and food isn't great. It was cheap food mostly. And they couldn't quite figure out a renal appropriate diet for me. Every meal seemed to have potatoes. Some meals also had a fruit cocktail full of high potassium fruits. You want something to drink? Better hope you're trying to not drink citrus not a renal safe juice or have dairy also not appropriate for someone on a renal diet. No alt milks. Sometimes the "alternative" meals aren't better. So basically not horrible, but far from even a 1 star hotel.
I was sent to this rehab from the hospital. I am a hospice caregiver. I also work for the state. I have worked in caregiving for over 25 years. This place was excellent. They treated me with such kindness and respect. I have never been treated so good. I have worked in places and for agencies and none where like this. I would go back here for care any time. Thanks for your tender loving care of a fellow health care worker. Nathana Jordan
Sorry these people are not skilled anything. They let my grandma gasp for air with oxygen levels in the 70's. Thru the night with breathing treatments that could only he done ever 6 hrs. The so called nurse said " we weren't sure if we should call an ambulance or not" thank God my aunt found her!! We had to call an ambulance to take her back to the hospital and they Didn't change her once in the 3 days she was there unless family asked them to and. Couldn't answer one question. Always "I don't know!"
My mother has lost about 30 lbs and become weaker and less functional since Adventist Hospital sent her here for rehab after she fell in her home. They want me to pay $12,000 in advance for December! I am trying to find somewhere in SE Portland to move her to before this place kills her. The only reason this isn't one star is because one employee, Malcolm is such an angel.
I’ve worked for this company for 8 years, not only have I experienced hard working nursing staff, but exceptional, and fun managerial staff. They encourage a fun, light hearted atmosphere, offer benefits, and decent raises yearly. Please pay no mind to the bad reviews as they were left from disgruntled employees who left unprofessionally, and aggressively. I was not bribed, nor paid for this review. I just love where I work.
This places has a hard time keeping Employee. But they have very good Nurses and CNA'S who work really hard. There just always seems to be more patients then workers.
I've worked in this facility for 12 years. We have a great hard working, knowledgeable, and caring staff that does the best everyday for our residents. We are a work family and treat our patients like family. It's a great place to work and advance for your future.
The professional staff at Portland Health and Rehab is excellent — both skilled nursing and physical/occupational/speech therapy. A special shout out to the activities director, Dakota, as well. He is AMAZING! The missing star is what my mom reported as general disorganization and lack of communication among caregivers when they changed shifts, especially in terms of knowing where her clothes, support stockings, pajamas and personal belongings were. I can also verify that she sat in one chair most of the day and that I had to actively work with staff to keep her call button and phone within reach, her feet elevated, and to get her up and down out of her chair on weekends when PT was unavailable. We also experienced delays in discharge due to the sheer volume of patients being discharged — no fault of the discharge planner Tonya, who was also excellent, but rather the fact that the facility seemed overwhelmed and understaffed. With that said, I — as my mom’s daughter and POA — was accepting of the trade-off! Kudos Portland Health.
Best compassionate people to work with Everyone makes you feel like family. We have very hard workers who genuinely care for each other and the residents. I love how everyone bands together to get the job done, and supports one another from housekeeping to dietary. The cna's are top notch, really care and go above and beyond. The nurses are amazing and extremely knowledgeable. Activities works so hard to bring families in to visit thier loved ones and make things fun. Its an amazing place to be. It's been tough for our little place during this national pandemic. Lot's of loved one's were lost to a horrible virus. Yet the spirit and resiliency shines through and we just get stronger. Im personally very proud of each person here, including our residents, and thier families who are so kind and supportive
