Very nice spot. LOTS of sweet Blackberries to eat/pickwatch out for the throns! Staff are friendly & VERY helpful. Camping spots are nice. Went with primitive camping. Note: they charge you $6 to take a shower. Nice lake for swimming/canoeing/boating. Primitive camp sites don't have any lights in the bathroom or around the building of the bathroom. Staff check on you by driving by. Check out is at 11am.
My family loves this campground! We have such a pleasant time every time we stay here. There's only a few sites with shade. It is primitive so they say there's no running water and only bucket/vault toilets. They actually do have some running water in two areas. The bathrooms are to be expected from vault toilets. They don't smell as bad as you would think but the flies are horrendous. They're especially bad at night cause they attack all light sources. I found out the hard way not to wear a head lamp going to the bathroom at night. Lol If you leave the bathroom doors cracked the fly issue is 90% better. I feel like they should drop the price down to 10$ a night maybe 12$... overall it's a beautiful diamond in the rough. The stars you see at night there are stunning.
I love this campground. At night there is no light so you can see the milky way easily. The vault toilets are clean and not an outhouse smell. Choose your site correctly, some have shade, some not. At night it is so loud with the frogs and bugs serenading everyone - great white noise. The sites are very large and a lot of blackberries to eat. The generators are turned off at 10 pm but usually generators are on the non-primative side campground. The views are beautiful from the lake and hills surrounding it. There are motorboats on the lake. The swim area is currently closed. But, a great price at $14/nt.
Love this place!!! I'll come back next year.
Rangers never returned to help finish registration. Instead they ignored my waves. As I was leaving I was gonna use the campground shower. Since no parking permit the thing they said they would bring me, they stopped me from entering and tried to charge me more money 1person. I felt slighted and felt I was being treated as a lesser unwanted visitor. Only stay if you have no choice. And likely this campground will be the last one listed. Totally lazy for an Army Corps of Engineers campground. I will definitely stay is a rest area before returning here.
Even though the grounds are closed off for camping, you can sometimes find a spot to park and just walk the area. It was a nice evening walk with the dogs .
We loved the hosts and the rangers.! We stayed at the primitive site it needs 2 things. My Problems are with the toilet part of the site They say handicap but then 1 the grass needs mowed 2 the toilet needs a light and 3 road needs to be graveled to the toilets from the rd..! The toilets were clean but nothing to wash or wipe your hands with.! Thanks
Love it. Just need to keep Eugene out.
The Primitive Campground are my favorite camping sites. The cost is less per night, the sites are larger, there is a primitive restroom, and a shared fresh water spicket no hose attachment pet friendly, there is no boat dock or water access at this location but the boat ramp is only a mile away. There is a trail to the lake that you could put your kayaks in at a marshy entrance. With your registration you're allowed to go to the main Campground and dump your tanks where they also have a fresh water hookup. The main Campground also has showers available if you're smart you'll park on the street and walk into them, otherwise it's an additional fee to drive in and use the showers. The only thing that makes this only worth four stars to me is both campgrounds have a very strict no alcohol allowed rule, and the camp host, police, and Marine's patrol the area like a hawk. They will give you one warning and then fine or evict you on any offense.
I like this site. You don't have a park host there 24/7. It's more relaxed than full service sites . Water access isn't the best. But you can walk a short distance to Wilson creek park for swimming or fishing. Plus if you need a shower you can go to the main campground.
