I was transported to the this hospital via ambulance. Only to be told that I have to wait in the waiting room for like 3 to 6 hours. Not only did doctor that I saw only for 5 minutes but I felt my voice was not being heard. When I was waiting in the waiting room, I saw a man vomiting profusely in a bucket for hours not being seen. My symptoms was getting worst when I was sitting in the waiting room and was in a lot of pain. There was some pretty rude staff working at this hospital. I saw 2 people with potential chest pains sitting in the waiting room. I was at this hospital especially the emergency department for several hours until I asked the front desk lady how long it will be until I get my discharge paperwork. She stated “It’s up to you.” “Do whatever you want.” “I’m not gonna stop you from leaving this hospital.” I just went back to my spot in the waiting room to wait until my name was called. This hospital needs to treat their patients way better and have more positive attitude instead of unprofessional behaviors and attitudes. Providence you need to do better with this hospital.
Not one nice thing to say about this emergency room. My granddaughter was assaulted at school. Picked up and dropped on her head and back. After xrays, and then waiting an hour and 15 minutes, they called us back. But someone went in our place similar names. We continued to wait, then they came and said oops..wrong person. We were ushered into a room that can best be described as an office, no bed, no anything. And told the Dr would come talk with us. He did for maybe 3-4 minutes. Didn't look at her eyes, injuries etc. Said you seem fine, no broken bones. I asked aren't we worried about a concussion, since she hit her head. Nope, not at this point since she didn't lose consciousness which we weren't sure that she didn't. Ok...thanks for absolutely nothing. Providence has really really gone down hill. Time for a new provider and hospital.
My visit tonight to Providence Milwaukie, they gave me 2 Tylenol for the severe abdominal pain, even though I was doubled over in tears. Eventually, after my spouse asking twice for something stronger if Tylenol was working I wouldn't be here!, they brought something stronger. About an hour later. I have had an ongoing abdominal issue since late November 2022. It takes MONTHS to get in to see specialists and receive testing/treatments at those offices. I have ALL of those tests/treatments scheduled. I have been a guinea pig for multiple doctors in the last 6 months. In the meantime, I've been to the ER here on several occasions, when the abdominal pain gets so bad I can not take it any more, because it's my only option! I would say half of my visits, the doctors are very kind and understanding. However, the other half seem to feel treating severe pain, if you're not dying, is unnecessary. They treat me like I'm a burden and wasting their time... Like I WANT to be here? I understand there is sometimes nothing more to be done, test-wise, while waiting to see a specialist, however it is still appropriate to treat pain in the ER. Yet for some reason, they're incredibly reluctant to do so. And forget about them sending you home with a prescription to get you through your ordeal until you can get to see your PCP. I keep telling myself, every time this pain gets too much to handle, that I'm not going to go back to Providence. I seem to keep holding out hope that it'll be better next time... or next time... or the next time. Providence, most people are not drug addicts or drug seekers. They're just people who need help and have come to you for it. Do better. Please.
Was ordered to "immediately report to ER", by my Primary Care Provider due to symptoms of a serious nature. Upon arrival at the emergency department, I notice the bullet proof glass between possibly the rudest front desk staff anywhere and the patients. Second thing that comes into scope is the amount of security whom couldn't bust a grape if they stomped on it collectively, roaming around with an almost gang like mentality and presence. The overall environment is seriously off-putting and lacking what matters most; a patient centered environment and safe space conducive to the well being and safety of all patients and staff. They are certainly protecting the staff, which again, with their unprofessional and rude demeanor, I can see why they need it, but where is the safe space environment and protection for the patients? The reason you have a job and a hospital remember? The patients! My Care Worker was with me as I have a history of severe PTSD and other diagnoses that require a professional assistant. My Care Worker approaches the Triage Nurse and explains that 'we have been sent by a Primary Care Provider and that I have a serious history of PTSD and asked for a safe and quiet space for me to wait'. We were completely ignored in our requests and thus, informed the staff that we would be waiting in the vehicle as to keep everyone, including me, safe. After 3 hours of waiting and still experiencing rather serious symptoms, we are taken back into a makeshift room with a bed and seen after about 20 minutes by a nurse who puts in an IV then proceeds to leave. There is no call button in this room, no follow-up for over 2 hours. They essentially had forgotten we were in that room. At that point I had spoken to my Primary Care Provider who at that time told me to leave and report to OHSU where they are prepared to recieve me and offer appropriate treatments. This hospital did not call my Doctor, nor could my Doctor get through to anyone. This hospital has failed drastically from a patient centered perspective and absolutely from a trauma informed perspective but most importantly, from a compassionate human perspective. Avoid this hospital at all costs.
I showed up to the Emergency Room about an hour ago approx 2200-2230 and had 2 other patients come in AFTER me but they were both seen by Melissa with Patient Services first. I went to confront Melissa about the blatant discrimination and she said she didn't see me sitting right in front of her. I left to go to a more competent hospital OHSU and on the way attempted to make phone contact with a manager of some kind. I was put on the phone with a man named Abdul who was kind enough but couldn't help with the situation and he transferred me to a charge nurse who constantly interrupted me and wouldn't divulge her name. Further phone calls were more of the same and since no resolution was reached, I'm reaching out to a lawyer to advocate in my stead since the staff there doesn't seem to hear me. Thanks OHSU for not practicing medicine like Providence! They are attentive and helpful and the google reviews alone reflect that.
I honestly don’t want to give this place 1 star but I think it wouldn’t let me leave it blank I wouldn’t send my worse enemy here. They don’t give patients their regular everyday meds. They don’t inform you of what they are doing and they release people far too soon. Took my son to the ER, he had cut himself pretty badly and they said he wasn’t a threat to himself or others and he was sent home. The same things happened the very next day with him. I’m pretty sure that the staff at this hospital received their licenses from a vending machine as they all have poor patient care. This hospital should be closed down instead of ripping people off for healthcare services that they can’t provide because they are incapable. I am going to be writing g reviews everyday about this place. They should be closed down.
This review is for the emergency department. I have never been disappointed with my treatment here. The front desk, triage, the nurses and doctors who are helping support patients all do a great job. I’ve never waited more than an hour in the waiting room. I’ve never felt like I had to fight to be heard or felt misunderstood. I feel confident with my life in these peoples hands. Thank you!
The staff here is incredibly rude and dismissive. My friend was brought via ambulance for a potential ankle break. Karlee who was the RN, to be honest the only one I could get the name of, came in and administered meds after 2 hrs and multiple tests were done. Karlee came in gave the meds and then informed my friend of their discharge papers. The whole time, no one bothered to check on them. Also, when the patients paperwork states their preferred pronouns, use them!!! Don’t misgender the patient and then decide to laugh when you are corrected. If that is how you are going to treat patients, find another field. Tyler, who was the one to laugh after misgendering the patient, decided to take 15 minutes to come and do wound care. In all honesty, I wouldn’t bring my dying grandmother here. Bedside manner needs to be a staple in the medical field, which this staff is fully lacking.
I was recently taken by ambulance to this emergency department. I was promptly placed in the waiting room for 3 hours. Sat in silence and waited, then was finally given a room. They put me in the “quiet room”, where i sat for an hour without even a nurse coming to speak to me. I looked around for a call button and there wasnt even one in the room. I had to walk with my cane out to the nurses desk just to ask if they were ever going to take my blood like they said they would be right back to do an hour ago. Was told to wait while they figured out whatever was happening. I went back to my room and waited for another 45-60 mins when a doctor came in. Told me that me fainting was my anxiety, specifically said “I’ve seen bigger lumps that werent cancer” and refused to do any imaging of said lumps, and also made it a point to tell me to “stop listening to my mom” when i explained i had a family history of multiple types of cancer. I recently went to OHSU instead and was actually taken seriously. I was diagnosed with cancer, that this er doctor could've gotten a head start on diagnosing for me, but because of his own personal biases and medical gaslighting he neglected to do proper testing of any kind. They didnt even take my blood. I dont suggest EVER going to this location, any providence actually. Ive had similar experiences at the portland location as well. This doctor’s negligence couldve saved precious time, i fully believe that I couldve been getting chemo sooner had he been a competent doctor. I will be filing a report with the state to have his license investigated soon.
**Update to my posting below** I received a phone call from the supervisor of the Information Admitting area, and I really appreciated her follow up on my experience. She apologized, explained their unique circumstances at this time while stating that all of it should have been made transparent to me upon checking in. My appointment check-in that day was disappointing, but I think it speaks volumes to have someone call, apologize and explain what was going on. I'm changing my rating to 3 stars because it was only one inappropriate experience with one person. Everyone else I interacted with that day, and the supervisor who called, have made me feel more comfortable about going back again should the need arise. **End of update** My rating is NOT for the service I received from diagnostic imaging/ultrasound tech - I had a great experience with them. The 1 star rating is for the woman who was working at the desk which says "Information Admitting" at the main entrance. I was sent to the Milwaukie Prov from St. V's for an anatomical ultrasound on 8/30 since St. V's team is scheduled out by weeks. As I approached the "Information Admitting" desk, I saw that I needed to sign in on a tablet at the front of where the line starts - which I did. After signing in on the tablet, I approached the front desk, again with a sign above that reads "Information Admitting" and as soon as I approached the woman told me I needed to sign in on the tablet and then take a seat in the lobby and wait. I said, "I signed in on the tablet already." She replied, "Oh okay, then just take a seat." I said, "I can't just ask you a question?" While giggling she said, "Umm, no." I was visibly upset when I went to go sit down, and afterwards another employee approached me in the lobby to ask what he could do for me. All I wanted to know is if I were waiting in the right place since this is not my main hospital - I came from St. V. I was being responsible with my appointment and time management, and would assume that someone who sits at a front desk with a sign above saying "Information Admitting" would be able to provide me with basic information. But given her response, I couldn't even ask a quick question. Just sign in on the tablet and leave me alone was the type of attitude she demonstrated in front of a lobby full of other patients. That is not professional customer service or patient care. If she really couldn't take the time to answer a question, why is she sitting at the front desk where people approach wanting information? If she really couldn't take the time to answer a quick question, why wasn't her response more customer service appropriate? Maybe saying something like, "I'm really sorry I can't assist you right now, but if you give me just a minute I'll ask my colleague to help you." That would have been a more professional and appropriate response than a giggling, "Umm, no." My experience with diagnostic imaging scheduling & the ultrasound tech was great. I would give them 5 stars. However, the woman who was sitting at the Information Admitting desk needs better training on customer service/patient care.
