Though I live in L.A. ... -- a mail-order customer of mine is a resident of Provincetown ... while it's [only] ~ $500 I cannot afford to be defrauded and had a growing suspicion that'd be the ultimate outcome. Even still I figured it was 90+ percent to be met with excuses, apathy & the ultimate guidance to deal with the matter via small claims. My non-emergency call was received by Ms. Sarah Bartholomew ... who patiently listened to my ~15 minute chronological rundown of the issue -- until a legitimate emergency required we wrap up. Ms. Bartholomew was patient, empathetic, and even took [notes] ... ultimately, saying she'd follow up with the sergeant of the day. I planned to call back after a day ... this way they had time to get the notes out if at all ... but still knew the odds were quite limited I'd receive any help...or so I thought. 30 minutes later I received a call from Sergeant Enos ... who'd already contacted the resident and had performed conflict resolution on my behalf ... calling me back to provide me the synopsis and to have me provide tracking info so that he could track the remainder of the matter. He had intervened to assist in a matter that wasn't a clear criminal matter ... probably below the monetary-threshold yet ... provided conflict-resolution in less time than I can order food from a restaurant. I didn't even recall providing the phone number of the individual ... Proactive on top of proactive. In every regard, above and beyond. Empathetic. Generous. ABSOLUTELY contrast to most PDs yelp ratings which are justifiably similar to tow companies. Rarely are these interactions going to be 'satisfying' especially in large metro areas like Los Angeles. In contrast -- they were EXCEEDINGLY professional & generous. They exude a commitment to mitigate harm instead of to pursue adrenaline rushes. In LA you can realistically expect metro PDs to feel more like assembly-line justice. Citizens are just cattle. For a matter in which I had very little if any hope someone would take an active interest in ... and really expected to receive the advice that, "It's a civil matter; you'll need to file that in small claims." Instead, Sergeant Enos and Emergency Communicator Sarah Bartholomew were both exceedingly generous. Proactive, and assisted in conflict resolution in less time than a pizza gets delivered. Extraordinary is an understatement ... in Los Angeles, unless it's a violent or potential emergency in progress ... you'll need to drive to the PD. And at that, you'll wait a while -- and they'll try to deter you with 'paper'. This experience makes me want to live in a smaller city where police retain this attitude. Minimizing harm instead of some percent who'll seek out adrenaline highs & opportunities to wield power. I view the vast majority of cops as 'well intended' ... but at minimum there's a bias to pursue action. I believe all people will agree that [some] percent of Police in U.S. have one style of treating their DA, brother in blue or a family member thereof -- who's pulled over buzzed ... vs. how citizens will be treated...to use an example where the biases of even the limited latitude in such a situation will show an "other-ing" of the citizens in their charge to protect. Whereas, I get a feeling of propriety, empathy and professionalism from Provincetown MA. And I'm lucky for it. If this is in fact, the culture of Provincetown PD ... I'd caution anyone reading or writing a critical review of PPD to consider the role their attitude, actions and choices played in at least co-creating any undesirable outcome. You can't control the choices of others ... so even if something isn't your fault ... if you could have done anything differently, that's the only way to avoid repeating it in the future. And people like me will evaluate whether you're 'blame shifting' ...
Interactions with this police department have always been friendly and caring. They helped me with a emergency situation with a friend on multiple occasions and they were respectful and compassionate. Excellent community service!
Called for assistance for a customer, and they hung up on me.
