The group has a flexible structure in which the mentors will meet to plan and prepare for the mentee meetings. The mentee and mentor can meet individually or in a small group to discuss academic strategies or a social activity.
The team of upperclassman provide various resources for students. Some examples are academic resources, social connection, advice, and help with homesickness.
Our goals as mentors:
1. Social goals - to have activities where students can meet other students and get involved with the department and university.
2. Academic goals - to provide materials to aid students learn to manage time, learn how to study efficiently and to help motivate students to be successful. Additionally, to act as a resource for study guides and other resources Purdue provides campus wide or through the College of Agriculture.
To mentor new students to the Department of Animal Sciences by utilizing a team of upperclassman to create a fun stimulating environment that encourages student engagement and development of personal and academic skills to help incoming students achieve a positive and beneficial university experience.
