The Purdue University cheerleading squad consists of 13 males and 13 females on our coed squad and 24 females on our all-girl squad. Both teams cheer for football, volleyball and men's/women's basketball.
The Purdue University cheerleading program consists of 50 hard working student-athletes. The 26 member co-ed team (13 males and 13 females) and the 24 member all-girl team cheer year round for Boilermaker athletics.
Both teams cheer at home and away football games, home volleyball matches, home men's & women's basketball games and all post season basketball tournaments. To help us prepare for the season, both teams attend UCA college cheer camp in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in early August.
In addition to our commitment to Purdue athletics as cheerleaders for the sports teams listed above, the program's goal is to compete at the national level at UCA College Nationals which takes place in mid-January every year.
Purdue cheerleading is fully funded through Purdue athletics. Benefits of being a Purdue cheerleader include:
• Earn an athletic varsity letter jacket after your first year on the squad. You are recognized as a varsity athlete by the John Purdue Club and the Varsity P Club.
• FREE tutoring for any classes – most schools you have to pay for a tutor. Here at Purdue it’s provided.
• Our own academic advisor.
• Our own strength and conditioning coach.
• Athletic trainer at EVERY practice and competition.
• NO fundraising – the Purdue athletic department pays for everything (uniform, megs, poms, warm-up/practice gear, travel gear, shoes).
• Included in the athletic contract with Nike.
• If the squad does compete, like we did this year, we go to UCA college nationals in Orlando, Florida, and the athletic department pays for it (travel, lodging and food).
• Free food during the halftime of all football games and beverages during the halftime of all volleyball and basketball games.
• If you have a vehicle, access to a student-athlete parking pass.
• Access to the student-athlete computer lab.
• Practice on a full 9-panel regular floor.
• Practice once a week at a local all-star gym to tumble on a spring floor. • Full book waiver for 24 members of the spirit squad.
• Cheer for Big Ten games ... be seen nationally on the Big Ten Network and many other nationally televised games.
• Frequent travel opportunities to away football games, bowl game, Big Ten and NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.
• Per diem for all meals on all trips.
• Access to team physician and nutritionist.
• Laundry service for post-game and practices.
• Parent’s Day gathering in the fall.
• Attend UCA College Camp in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
