Queen Elizabeth Park, British Columbia

Description

Queen Elizabeth Park is a 130-acre municipal park located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on Little Mountain (elevation approximately 152 metres or 500 feet above sea level). Its surface was scarred at the turn of the twentieth century when it was quarried for its rock, which served to build Vancouver's first roadways.HistoryBefore European settlement, the park was an old-growth forest and a spawning ground for salmon. Grey wolves, elk and bears would frequent the area. The settler population which began in earnest in the 1870s exterminated the grey wolves, elk and bears, chopped down all the old growth forest and paved over the salmon creeks. The salmon creeks that extend from Queen Elizabeth to False Creek do still exist today, but they have been paved over and are so polluted that salmon no longer use them. In 1930, the park's floral future was somewhat revealed when the BC Tulip Association suggested the notion of transforming the quarries into sunken gardens. By the end of that decade, the site had been turned over to the Vancouver Park Board for park and recreation purposes, and was dedicated as such by King George VI and his consort, Queen Elizabeth (the mother of Queen Elizabeth II) on their much lauded visit to Vancouver in 1939, as King and Queen of Canada. From that time, Park staff incrementally transformed the overgrown hillsides into Canada's first civic arboretum, with a generous donation from the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association. The popular quarry gardens were designed by Park Board Deputy Superintendent Bill Livingstone and were unveiled in the early 1960s.

We like walking our dog to the dog park at Queen Elizabeth Park, especially on sunny days. Our dog is always happy, smiling, cannot stop wagging his tail whenever we bring him to the park, cause he knows he can run around on the grass, very spacious, and play with other dogs. The park is big and beautiful, a bit hilly at some parts, a lot of trees and flowers, including cherry blossoms in spring time. We celebrated our daughter's birthday in Seasons in the Park last year, a nice fine dining restaurant inside the park. It's nice because we live nearby about 10 minutes of walking, so whenever we need some fresh air or need to be in a spacious open place, we can always come to the park, just to sit under a big tree, picnic, nice place for reading, playing with dog, walking, cycling, jogging, breathing... Dog-friendliness: There is a spacious open space dog park near the tennis courts.
Beautiful walk. Lots of nice things to see and enjoy. The blodel conservatory has some amazing plants and always love to see beautiful birds. The love locks are super cool. And there is a locks dated from 1940's will you be able to find it??
Walked from Downtown and it was worth the walk. The park is a lovely distraction from the City skyscrapers with large green areas, both cultivated and natural, sports fields and views. It's worth the walk just to get a picture of the City with a green border. Free to just walk or you can pay to visit the Conservatory separate review posted. The gardens near the conservatory are beautifully tended and watch out for the hummingbirds. I love the fact that the mountains distance and direction are marked on the wall to view the City.
A MUST SEE if you're in the area. I come here around 3 times a week. There's a really beautiful restaurant in the park as well as a pretty biodome. But you don't need to spend any money to enjoy the park. Between the really lush gardens, the fruitful blackberry bushes in the late summer time, so many beautiful sitting areas, you'll be spoiled for choice! I personally come here to hang out with friends, have a beer and the drinking area, paint, see the mountains, exercise running up that hill is a good way to get the heart moving, and anything in between.
One of the beautiful parks in Vancouver. The most attractive spot I like here is a view point where we can view the whole city and mountain range. There are a lot of varieties of plants and are beautifully maintained. There is a restaurant inside the park which was crowded on my visit date. There is a small conservatory inside the park which we need to pay for entering For adutha it cost nearly 7 dollar and for kids nearly 4 dollar. Very big car parking facilities and a plenty of resting places. I didn't see these many resting place anywhere in other nearby parks. Dog-friendliness: This is a dog friendlier park Picnic area: Good picnic spots. Even kids will enjoy it.
An amazing place in Vancouver to observe the city , mountains and parks. The view is incredible especially since it's so accessible. No need to hike and everyone can enjoy it. The parking is paid and usually has enough spots. Popular place for weddings, skateboarding, photography, and art. I also saw some roller blading in the parking lot. The park is free to enter, but you'll need a license to host a wedding ceremony there. There are different places but the most picture-perfect place to walk to is the large quarry . While the top viewpoint is best for time lapse of the sunset. There is a restaurant nearby. And large grassy grounds for picnic or sun bathing. There is a blodel bio conservation which hosts plants flowers and birds.
Was raining so we did not walk the grounds. They looked quite lovely. The dome at the top is for tropical plants and was a great choice in the rain. So pretty and the birds were a bonus.
Beautiful park. It has many spots to enjoy a picnic, talk, coffee or walk—one of my favourite parks in Vancouver. The gardens are stunning in spring and summer, don't miss them. Dog-friendliness: It has a particular area for dogs
Beautiful day at this gem in the heart of Vancouver. Our Mexican relatives loved how peaceful and well-maintained this gorgeous park was! Wonderful place for a peaceful walk, picnic, or simply to enjoy nature. A must-see when in Vancouver!
Queen Elizabeth Park is a must see place to enjoy. The gardens are a symphony of color. The terrarium with exotic birds and tropical plants makes one feel that they are on vacation in a far off land.
