Local IMCA auto racing

Description

Raceway Park, formerly known as “Interstate Speedway” was founded by the Beauchene family in 1969, and is known as the “Action Track”.
The track was built in the fall of 1969 under the ownership of Cecil and Joyce Beauchene as they made the track out of farm ground. Interstate Speedway opened in 1970 with the first race being run on June 7, 1970.
The track was built with the idea of offering family-affordable entertainment and that idea continues at the track to this day. The track has drawing power from about 100 miles in any direction for the racers who came to take on the fast-paced track.
In the early ’80s the track ran late models, sportsman, roadrunners and street stocks with more than 100 cars checking in to race on a given night. In 1986, the track sanctioned the IMCA modified division to provide a more affordable race car and beginning its relationship with the IMCA sanctioning body.
The track would also be known for the show it put on in addition to the racing. There was plenty of car jumping – and some crashing – to add a little more entertainment for the fans. There was also one man who claimed to be the heaviest rider to jump a motorcycle. He took his turn at the Jefferson, S.D., dirt track.
Entertainment like that led to the track being nicknamed “The Action Track” a moniker it still carries today.
The facility has gone through a couple of different ownerships, but was bought and opened again in 2008 by Tom Reed from Dakota City, Neb., after the name had been changed to Raceway Park in 2007.” The facility was promoted by Tom & Caryl Reed from 2008 until 2012 when they hired Golden Racing Corp. to take over operations.
Golden Racing has been promoting auto racing in the area since 1996. We started out at Raceway Park formerly known as Interstate Speedway in 1996. We also helped build and promote Blackbird Bend Speedway in Onawa, IA in 2002. In 2015 we were hired as the General Managers of Park Jefferson Speedway. Golden Racing is dedicated to putting on a great show at an affordable price for the entire family. Our racing program is family oriented with the Quick Pick Big Wheel racing Series for the kids, Ditzy the Clown is on hand every Sunday night with wacky and fun projects. We try to make it as fun and affordable as possible and keep the fans involved and entertained.
Raceway Park is a high-banked little 3/10-mile black gumbo oval race track. This little unique race track has earned the name “The Action Track”. The grandstands are up close and personal to the race track for a great view of the evening’s action. Raceway Park is IMCA sanctioned and we run the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stockcars, IMCA Northern Sportmods, IMCA Hobbystocks and IMCA Sport Compacts. Also some special events for the 2016 race season are the South Dakota Spring Nationals, GOTRA (Good Ol’ Time Racing Association), Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Dirt Track Traveling Series, Miniakota Micro Sprints, South Dakota Fall Nationals. Raceway Park will not disappoint so grab your family and come on out every Sunday night April-September.
We have done many upgrades to the facility since 2012. We continually work on improvements to the facility, be it painting or just maintenance to keep the facility looking great. This year we are anticipating putting in a new souvenir shop that will include the Kids Korner candy, snow cones and clothing and souvenirs. The Kids Korner we are working on turning into a funnel cake stand.
