Someone please help me with the "old" name of this park - I can't believe I forgot it! I remember this park when real tires were used to climb on among other socially unacceptable playground items deemed too dangerous for today's coddled kids, they had a basketball and tennis court, and at the top of the hill there was an even larger structure to climb. It's amazing how, in only a matter of 2-3 decades, we have softened and muted the experience of being a child. I'm only in my 40s, but this sentiment grows as I get older. Imagine a world in which you could live a few blocks away from this park and be told to come home when the street lights turn on! But I'm no better, I didn't allow my child the same freedom to explore that I enjoyed...society you're a crazy breed.
2 playgrounds 2-5 and 5-12, lots of swings, and 2 bouncers ladybug and tractor. Seems well maintained. Big sand area, good for toys or volleyball. Area isn't quiet since it's right next to Colley Ave, the hospital, and not far from downtown/highways but well fenced in most places. Parking is limited to on street only, right next to the park is 1 hour limit but can park further out
Nice and big but should get cleaned up as far as under the swings and the bushes. Maybe they should put new rubber bottom underneath and clean the slides as well. Also would be nice to have a water fountain for hot summer days!
Excellent local park. Swings and two playground sets. Great for kids of all ages.
My kids love this park! They call it the "big" park. Street parking is limited, but it is conveniently located in Ghent next to EVMS/Norfolk General, surrounded by safe neighborhoods to walk in, and rarely attended by large groups read: better than some more cramped parks during a pandemic. There is a large and small playground set and several swings, a gate keeps kids mostly contained, and there is a little central hill that the kids like to climb over.
Multiple areas to play. Large area. Highly recommend. Volleyball court. Mostly fenced. Lots of kids and parents but still safe.
Another great park in Norfolk. We were at the hospital, good place for the kids to burn off some energy. Has swings, two age appropriate play sets, and a sand area. The larger play area was a good challenge for my kids 5 and 3
Excellent playground in the middle of Ghent. Right off colley Ave but when you enter the playground it feels like you're in the middle of the forest. Two okay structure and a big set of swings.
This is a great little hidden gem in Ghent. There is a large sand volleyball setup as well. Our young daughter also enjoyed the hill. There aren't many around to run up and down!
This is a really cute playground. The hill in the middle is a bit strange but my kids love to play on it. It is nice that it has a smaller playground for toddlers and a bigger one for older kids.
