Have you ever had trouble finding affordable, fresh produce on campus? Do you ever find yourself eating Ramen three times a day because you can't afford anything else? Have you ever found yourself waiting in line at the Health Center because you thought you probably had scurvy? Well the Food Recovery Network has found a solution for your problem. Through a program called the Recovered Food CSA, the FRN will be selling 5 pound bags of fresh produce for only 5 dollars at a convenient location on campus!
For many reasons, farmers aren't able to sell all their produce and through a process called gleaning, they are able to recover some of this food that would otherwise be wasted. The volunteers at the Recovered Food CSA buy this gleaned produce and then sell it to you. By buying this produce you are not only helping out local farmers but you are also combating waste! But you're not only helping out your community. Every time you buy a 5 pound bag or fresh fruits and vegetables, we donate an identical bag to a hungry family in the D.C. area. Also, we will give you a bonus (yes that means free!!!) bag for referring a customer.
As a college student, we know how hard it is to stay on top of nutrition. Eating at the diner is convenient, and take out is cheap, but now you have the opportunity to buy fresh fruits and vegetables on campus. By eating well you'll be doing good for your self and your community!
The CSA will be held on Monday afternoons from 12-5. Stay tuned for locations.
