Meet Kathy!
Kathy Redmond is a porcelain artist, who enjoys making unique, creative and customizable pieces. Kathy uses porcelain because she loves the tiny details she can make even though porcelain is very strong and fine. Porcelain is very elegant and Remond gains a lot of inspiration from a porcelain company called Meissen Germany. She loves the details of their artwork and always tries to learn from it.
As a child, she always knew she wanted to be an artist and she originally wanted to be a painter. She loved going to the Art Institute in Detroit and would study different painters and their techniques, and she could watch the paintings all day.
Kathy began making her career in clay in 1976. Then, she and her mother would make porcelain dolls. Kathy was the clay worker and her mother was the sewer. Their first big project was making Henry the VIII and his wives. This was huge for them because people loved to hear and see the history of each wife and Henry. Kathy made about 35 sets of Henry and his wives.
This was one of her favorite projects because she faced a lot of challenges making them. But every set she made she critiqued and made them even better the next time. Kathy also loves Medieval history and that is where she gains a lot of her inspiration. She loves the music and the history. Her goal in her art is to incorporate history behind
the art pieces.
Kathy also enjoys her time as a substitute teacher, but her passion was art and she wanted to keep pursuing it.
With Kathy’s unique touch of customizing artwork to the client’s content, she reads every detail and turns it into something beautiful and different. No two pieces will ever be the same, and that’s what makes it Redmond Porcelain.
