From humble beginnings as a small, fresh-fruit smoothie cart, Maui Wowi Hawaiian has grown to become the sole destination for authentic Hawaiian products on the Mainland.
In 1983, founders Jeff and Jill Summerhays built Maui Wowi Hawaiian to provide their Ohana (family) a healthy alternative to foods high in fat and sugar. They created a line of proprietary smoothie blends, featuring their own nonfat yogurt recipe, exotic fruit juices, fruit purees and all-natural flavorings and sold them to “wowed” customers at neighborhood fundraisers, festivals and fairs.
Riding the wave of satisfied customers, Maui Wowi became a huge success, serving grateful customers from convention centers on the U.S. Mainland to the beaches of Australia’s Gold Coast.
In 1997, food and beverage consultant and visionary entrepreneur Michael Haith met the Summerhays at the Utah Arts Festival. Witnessing the lines of eager fans clamoring to enjoy Maui Wowi’s fresh-fruit smoothies, Haith recognized the magic created by Jeff & Jill and brought his seasoned business skills to the company to create a franchise system.
Today, Maui Wowi Hawaiian has grown into a wildly successful Ohana with nearly 500 franchised operations nationwide.
