THE STORE accepts donations of clean usable goods in support of its central mission to rescue, care for and protect abused and abandoned horses.
Refuge Farms, founded by Sandra Gilbert, is located at Spring Valley, WI. It is in it's 16th year of saving equine lives. THE FARM, as it's affectionately called, has saved and re-homed over 1,100 horses! The Sanctuary Herd, that will never leave THE FARM, are those who are blind, or too disabled to move on to another home and will live the rest of their lives there.
Fundraising is a never-ending challenge and an annual yard sale was held each spring. However, donations kept arriving so Sandy decided to open THE STORE which will turn salable donations into money which is used to support The Herd and to save as many lives as possible.
"After ten years at this, it works out that the initial cost of saving a life is about $500. Some (horses) cost much more than that to rehab and treat medical conditions, but others don't require any expenses to rescue other than the transportation to pick them up. So it all averages out." ---Sandy Gilbert.
Staffing is done by Sandy and occasional volunteers. Vendors pay monthly rent for their spaces and that amount covers the rent and expenses of THE STORE. A percentage of vendor sales are also forwarded to Refuge Farms in support of the rescue efforts. All proceeds from sales at THE STORE are used for the support of the horses and the missions of rescue! THE STORE accepts donations of clean usable goods in support of its central mission to rescue, care for and protect abused and abandoned horses.
In addition to items donated to THE STORE for resale, a cash donation is always welcome and helps to pay for veterinarian services, annual vaccinations, farrier expenses, and even hay and feed! Checks may be mailed to Refuge Farms, P O Box 195, Spring Valley, WI, 54767.
