We came to check out the river access as it is too hot to hike in the summer heat. The river was nice and clear until you step in the water and it becomes a little bit murky. It is warm in the shallow end, but becomes cool when you get in past your hips. There is no shade near the water and it is beach-like access. We will come back for hiking when it’s cooler outside! Beautiful sunset spot on the road out!
Great hike. Take the backdoor exit for a bit more challenging hike and cave exposure. I went in May 2023 and there was a ton of wild flowers and butterflies along the hike. Very serene and peaceful.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
Good hiking trails, some rocks for climbing, great places to swim, it has toilet facilities and parking, you need to pay a fee to access it.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
Good spot for hiking. Friendly staff. Primitive trail starts out a little challenging but ends up in a cool cave. Great river views on Upper River Trail. Take the backdoor exit for some rock scrambling and uphill challenge! Restrooms: Restrooms by the climbers canyon hiking area were closed. Need to go over to the Mtn Biking trailhead.

Arrived early for a backcountry navigation, map and compass class, hosted by REI. What trails we used were all in good condition and one had a very nice view of the Pedernales River. The facilities are very nice and well kept.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
Worst place ever, go away. I'm kidding... .. . I only joke about that because I go fishing out here. Gotta get folks away from my fish'n spots. This park is among the best. I've been coming here since before they had the paved roads, back when you could drive all the way down to the river before all the fancy buildings not talking about the drop off area for kayaks. Great fishing spot at the right time of the year. Great hiking trails, scenery, etc. I haven't done any rock climbing or horseback riding out there but that seems to be pretty popular at this park, also. Definitely a park to visit.
Wonderful park. It was my backup plan after forgetting to reserve at Hamilton Pool and it was great. Walking next to the Pedernales River is beautiful. I'm used to flat land in Texas but that one has some kick to it depending on where you hike. Rocks seems mostly volcanic so there is a decent grip to it. It was a bit risky in Crocs so I recommend good shoes. There was a few small streams in the woods that were a very nice addition. Some sections are easy flat grass and some are a bunch of big boulders that you jump around. I was done after 30 minutes in September heat at noon. :
I hadn't even heard of this park until a couple days ago, but it has now become one of my favorites to hike. With a few inclines and slopes, you can enjoy an overlook and be near the water at this trail. The view is gorgeous! I saw so many doggos walking along the trail and playing in the water. There are also informative posts as you walk about what animals you might encounter in that area. This was the best way to see the seasons changing colorfully, which is a rare sight in South Texas.
Beautiful park!! We hiked along the lower river trail with the pup. $5 per person. It's about 1.6 miles in so a total of just over 3 miles out and back. Made a few stops at some of the river access points to get feet wet and cool off. River was beautiful and it wasn't over crowded. Loved hearing all the different bird species but had trouble finding their tiny little bird bodies in the brushes. The trails were also stacked with beautiful flowers, huge rock boulders, a lot of tall oak trees, some cedar and others as well.
