Reno Red's Frontier Cooking and Catering

Description

We started our "trail ride" back in 1989 when we first opened the doors of the Prairie House in Crossroads, Texas. Over the next twenty or so years, we had locations in Carrollton and right here in Roanoke at this location. And where one trail ends, another begins...and so it is as we are now known in these parts as Reno Red's Frontier Cooking.

Just who is Reno Red?

Look out the windows and gaze back into the time of the great cattle drives of the Old West. The Chisholm Trail was not far from right here. Among those hard working cowboys along the trail that carried half of all the cattle in Texas, was the great chuck wagon master, Reno Red. Cowboys knew when they saw his chuck wagon it meant there was going to be some good eatin' and tales to tell. For most cowboys the chuck wagon was truly their home on the range. And if the chuck wagon was their home, the cook was their king. Because the morale of the men and the smooth functioning of the camp depended on him, the cook's authority was unquestioned.

Reno Red is our "Chuck Wagon Master" and the inspiration for our decor and our menu recipes. We have many of Reno's favorite original recipes. And just like Reno, we cook our food on an open mesquite grill for that true frontier cooking experience. Time has come for the tales of Reno Red to be told. We want our customers to know who that cowboy is in our logo. More tales to come . . .

"Reno Red's serves up classic Texas comfort food, including mesquite-smoked bbq, chicken fried everything, and steaks grilled on a unique open-flame grill."

Arrived there, had a doubt a little bit, actually it was an old garage shop turned into a really nice restaurant, better a museum, i didn't had only an awesome dinner, but I've traveled around the furniture and articles hooked on the wall. The steak was really good, and the chim cheese cake was incredibly good. If there's more than 5 stars, i would definitely give them. Thanks
Good food with prompt and friendly service. I ordered the 10oz strip steak and it was cooked to perfection. Their BBQ and steaks are cooked over mesquite wood which adds a tasty and unique flavor. The inside has a rustic barn style theme, they have a full service bar but no beer on draft.. only bottles.
Nothing truly exciting about this place. The food was good the service was good. The beer selection was OK, nothing really special or outstanding. One thing to note all the beer is from bottle or cans. The other drink menu items are on par to what you would find anywhere else. The decor here is what I believe to be rustic Texan? I am not from Texas but it looks very rustic and there are animal heads on the wall. So if you are turned off by these things this place is not really for you. All and all the place wasn't bad it looks to be a local favorite for steaks and ribs and such. If you are in town and wanna check it out it is worth a try.
Food was really great, some of the best steak I've had. The vibe and setting was unique and not your typical restaurant, which is refreshing and pretty neat actually. Would definitely recommend giving this place a try, you'll want to come back!
We visited this place just to try something new. The food and service was great, with a super cute Western atmosphere. The drinks came in mason jars which was fun! Definitely a cute little destination place if you are in the area. However, when looking them up on Google, it’s stated that they have a backyard patio, which was one of the reasons we decided to go here since it was such a beautiful day. When we asked for patio seating, they said they didn’t have a patio and they get asked that all the time... so instead we got sat next to a window ‍.
In the photos are a chicken fried chicken plate that shows okra and a baked potato and a plate that was a chicken fried rib-eye by itself on the plate because it was so huge it took up the whole plate and still protruded over the edge some. It had already been eaten from before I took the photo. There were sides with that, but we all know what's important here. All of the food at Reno Reds was delicious, hot, fresh and came out quickly. Our waiter, Dakota, was awesome! The dessert was delicious and the portion was generous. I will be back. And I will also be hitting up Red's Yard, their bar and grill, in Denton.
First let me say when we went there on a Saturday night the place appeared closed. We caught the attention of the hostess that turned out to be the waitress. She was cordial and very nice. We had an appetizer named Banderos. They come in chicken, steak or shrimp and they were delicious. They consist of a meat wrapped in bacon partnered with a jalepeno and grilled. They have a bar b que sauce glaze and are served atop fried jalepeno and onion straws. I had a simple chicken fried steak. The cowboy beans were delicious. The potatoes were bland, the gravy was boring and the chicken fried steak was not great at all. I am so glad I passed up on the swordfish. My wife had the triple. It consisted of sliced beef, sausage and pork ribs and it was partnered with green beans and cowboy beans. The beans were delicious but the meat was dry, the ribs were far from fall off and this was the FIRST time we asked for a doggy bag. Yes, we take leftovers home and eat them however these are best served to the dogs. Yeah we wont be going back. Too bad because the area is neat and the restaurant looks awesome. The prices are high and we were not impressed. We eat out all the time and in comparison I'd have rather just gone to another establishment. Placed looked promising. Gordon Ramsey you are needed.
The decor, the people, all so friendly. The food was incredible, the smokey flavors were terrific. Had the beef ribs and banderos. So good had to go back twice. Fried okra was outstanding.
Very cool rustic atmosphere! Staff is sweet and attentive! Boss steak was on point and the banana pudding was delicious! Love the Mason jar glasses!
I thought I left a review. Nice place. Great steak and great atmosphere too if you like old dark places like I do. I swear I believe the owner is a rider. I wish there were more places like this out there.
