The philosophy of Rest Haven Lodge is that of Christian service. We believe that supportive and caring measures can nurture the whole person.
REST HAVEN LODGE is located in Sidney, BC. This 73 bed Complex Care facility is owned and operated by the Adventist Health Care Home Society, and is subsidized through the Ministry of Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority).
MEDICAL SERVICES: Each resident must be under the care of a local physician prior to admission. A Medical Coordinator, who visits the Lodge on a weekly basis, provides medical advice regarding our residents to the nurses, administration and physicians.
PROFESSIONAL SERVICES: A multidisciplinary team of professionals comprised of the physician, pharmacist, nursing team, dietitian, social worker, activity coordinator and music therapist provide resident care. Team members meet regularly and develop individualized care plans for each resident. The resident and family are encouraged to be involved in the care planning and are invited to participate in an annual care conference held to address changes in the resident’s health status and to review the care plan.
RECREATION: Our basic social and recreational program includes exercises, television, videos, games and faith-based programs. An Enhanced theme-based program is available for a nominal charge, and includes activities such as music therapy, entertainment, a walking program, crafts, and bus outings.

DIETARY: All food is prepared onsite and includes three meals a day plus between-meal snacks. Special diets and consistencies are available if ordered by the physician or registered dietician.
GUEST MEALS: Meals can be purchased at the Lodge so guests can join a resident at mealtime. Guests can contact the Dietary department at 250-656-0717, Extension #450 at least 24 hours prior to the serving of the meal.
ALCOHOL: Consumption of alcoholic beverages requires a prescription from the resident’s physician, and all alcohol will be stored and administered by our licensed nurses.
LAUNDRY: All clothing and other personal belongings that are laundered at our facility must be wash and wear, and identified with an approved waterproof label. Rest Haven will affix, and charge for, clothing labels as required.
The Lodge cannot take responsibility for items damaged during laundering such as with shrinkable items.
RELIGIOUS SERVICES: Regular services are offered at the Lodge.
RESIDENTS’ AND RELATIVES’ COUNCIL: Monthly meetings are scheduled for the purpose of planning special activities and expressing the concerns of the residents. Both residents and their families are welcome to attend.
VISITING: Families and friends are welcome to visit at any reasonable hour. Children and pet visitors are always appreciated.
LEAVES: Arrangements can be made with the Charge Nurse if you wish to take a resident off the premises.
When the leave is for overnight or longer, arrangements are to be made at least 24 hours in advance.
COSTS: The monthly accommodation rate is determined by the Ministry of Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority). Payment is due on the first of every month.
It is recommended that each resident establish a Trust Account to cover expenses such as hairdresser, bus outings, supper club, and supplies. This fund usually requires a monthly replenishment. Pharmacy and medical services are invoiced directly to the resident.

Hairdresser- Weekly hair care services are available on designated days
Foot Care- Podiatrist & Foot Care Nurse bi-monthly
Dental- Dental Hygiene and Checkup programs
Physiotherapy- Physiotherapist is available upon request
Newspaper- Pre-paid subscriptions can be arranged directly with the newspaper office.
Cable TV- Shaw Cable “Classic” service can be arranged with the Lodge.
Telephone- Telephone service can be arranged with Telus. Other service providers cannot be accommodated at this time.
Internet/Email- Computer services can be arranged with the service provider of your choice.
VALUABLES AND PERSONAL BELONGINGS: Rest Haven Lodge cannot assume responsibility for loss or damage to personal belongings. These items are to be engraved or labelled with the resident’s name.
SECURITY: There is 24-hour surveillance in all public areas. All exit doors are coded; however, we are not considered a ‘locked” facility and therefore, are not able to accommodate people who are at risk for elopement.
SAFETY: For the safety of our residents items that can lead to falls are not allowed. All electrical items must be pre-approved.
MEDICATIONS: All medications, including over-the-counter drugs, naturopathic or homeopathic remedies, require a physician’s order and are supplied by the contracted pharmacy. These items will be retained and administered by our licensed nurses.
EQUIPMENT: Wheelchairs and walkers may be leased from the Lodge depending on availability. Electric wheelchairs and scooters are not permitted.
SMOKING AND SCENTS: We are a non-smoking facility both inside the building and on the grounds.
We encourage the use of unscented personal care products due to allergy concerns.
