Restoration of Maple Hill Cemetery, Inc. is a non-profit organization that exists for the sole purpose of making improvements to the cemetery.
Located on North Russell Street At Glendale Ave. in Portland, TN, Maple Hill Cemetery was established in 1847when Rebecca Johnson was buried on the Thomas Buntin plantation. Five additions to the property have been acquired and adjoined to the Buntin family cemetery. The Portland Cemetery was developed in 1899, the Maple Hill addition in 1913, the Meguire addition in 1938, and the Shannon section in 1939. The most recent addition was 2 1/2 acres donated by Larry and Wanda Collins in 1997; this addition providing 1,400 more grave sites. These addition have resulted in a total, it is estimated, of about 7,400 graves.
The Mission of the entire cemetery is to: Record Accurate Transfer and Location records for burial plots and maintain a directory of burials by location.
