Nice campground. Host was great. Nice guy. The wind was horrendous. I doubt this is a normal issue. I fished the river for an hour before a grizzly chased me out.
Great little campground...right beside the rocky Shoshone River. Looking forward to returning here. Loved site #30 the best! Dog-friendliness: Dog friendly spot!
Raquel was a dispersed Campground with no hookups and no dump station they did have water available by the restrooms I can't remember the park host's name an older gentleman by himself very very informative this Campground is between Cody and Yellowstone River runs behind it very very quiet and beautiful Campground $7.50 a night worth every penny
This...is...camping! Our site was rural as camping should be - no electricity or water. Granted there others that did, there was also a pump for water in the middle of the grounds if needed. The views were ABSOLUTELY stunning!! The night time and the stars? WOW! Just be prepared to be spooked a bit by the night wildlife. We confused a chipmunk's scurrying for something we couldn't see Overall - unless we're showed another site, we drove from Cody to Yellowstone and THIS was it! A teenage son and his younger sister loved the nature, wildlife, and cooking. No one is on site. It's a trust system with the state but worth every penny. We would pay triple and not even bash an ey. The experience will last for many years!!! Don't wait, if you're reading this while looking for a site, get there asap!!!
We stayed here July 2020 in our 5th wheel and would absolutely love to go back. We took a 17 day road trip from IN to WY, and out of all the places we stayed, Rex Hale was our favorite campground as far as scenery goes. The red cliffs are gorgeous. We stayed a couple nights in a spot on the river with no water & elec hookups that's what we had reserved but then for the next few nights we moved over to a spot with hookups. For July Yellowstone's busiest month this campground wasn't crowded at all. And we were just 20-30 minutes from the East gate. The camp host was super nice. The wind got crazy on our last day, so that could be an issue for tent campers.
Found completely by accident. It’s made our list of yearly stops while visiting the Yellowstone area. Just a lovely quiet place to have a cocktail and have a conversation with the ones you love. The surrounding cliffs are one’s of beauty.
I chose this campground because it was the closest to Yellowstone in the direction we were heading on our road trip, and everything inside the park was booked. But holy cow! What a pleasant surprise. It sits right on the river. And the view of the surrounding cliffs and stars were absolutely phenomenal. We felt like we really lucked out. Also, the bathrooms were super clean.
Great basic campground. We stayed at a tent site without electricity. There are a few vault toilets in the campground, so it's not a long walk to get to one regardless of which site you stay at. The toilets were kept clean, as well, which was very nice considering that was the extent of the bathroom facilities. The location was great, too. It is about 17 miles to the East entrance of Yellowstone. It is close to the highway, and we could hear the cars passing by, but it wasn't loud or intrusive. Even though it is a campground with multiple sites together, the sites are not right on top of each other like at some campgrounds. There was a mix of tents and RVs while we were there. There are caretakers for the grounds who live on site. They were very nice, and checked on us when we arrived to answer any questions we had. If you want camping that's almost "roughing it", but not quite, then I'd recommend Rex Hale.
This is the first campsite east of Yellowstone that is not hardside only. Tent campers, don't bother with anything before this. Site itself is good. Grill grates on fire rings, small bear box. Restroom is ok. Lots of flies. Tent pad is hard pack. Saw other reviews that mentioned wind. We did experience a lot of strong wind, but it also rained. Quiet spot with a nice view.
Great national forest campsite on the way into Yellowstone. Serious views of canyon walls directly above the campground. Only five or so campsites were in use. Non-utility was $15 and utility was $22 and there were plenty of both. Didn't meet camp host since I arrived late. Fire rings and bear lockers are provided at each site. There are three restrooms and water stations but no showers. The campsites are fairly close together so could see it feeling crowded when full.
